The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

Am currently in Washington DC and it reminds me of Canberra with the government and museum feel. Although the museum component is extraordinary and a few hours at Smithsonian Air and Space museum (city location) was well worth it.

However, for my photos I have decided to show The Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

I can see why Americans are drawn to the Lincoln Memorial, it is quite impressive and having seen it numerous times on television and movies I am very glad to have finally seen it in person.

I went to the Washington Monument both during the day and sunset. At sunset a group of young people were singing the Star Spangled Banner a capella, it was quite moving on a warm autumn's evening surrounded by American flags fluttering gently in the breeze.

The photo of the monument is from just in front of the memorial showing its reflection in the Reflecting Pool.

Washington is great and the Lincoln Memorial is very impressive. I was also impressed with the Pacific Memorial and the Iwo Jima memorial.

Also, if you get the chance, visit the Library of the Congress, well worth the visit.

This is my drive to work each morning when I'm in Enga Provence, PNG. I seem to only post up PNG pics, but I don't seem to get to the exotic places like the rest of you! ;)

Highlands Highway. The terrain here is mountainous and unstable with many and frequent landslips. Note the crack in the road!

Whoa ....... love the headdress !! is that fur ??

It's cuscus fur, with bird of paradise, cassowary and other assorted bird feathers. Lot's of species of bird of paradise are around, so you do get differences. The various regions are identified by the paint. The photo below show differences in headdress colours (cassowary to the left and bird of paradise to the right) as well as differences in necklaces. That's purely decorative differences and doesn't indicate regions. Enga is identified by the big black band across their mouth, nose and chin and even villages can be identified ... eg, in the photo below, the man on the right is Porgeran (identified by the red highlight flashes on his face, whereas the other is Engan, but not Porgeran, possibly Laigam. If all their face is painted black, it's no longer a ceremony, but tribal war ... and best to stay clear!

Predominantly yellow ochre is from Hela (where I also work), but not all headdress is animal. Human hair is used, but not so common now (Hela has the wigman where boys spend a year in solitude growing their hair to be cut for a wig ... and also have natural redheads in Hela). The photo below however, is of a Porgeran and the human hair hat is much more distinctive than the Huli wigman. Needless to say, I find it all extraordinarily intriguing.

Nice pic. Is it from the relaxation suite?

Taken from the hall a short distance from my "shrub" infected dog box.

$300+ seems like a right royal rip off however, when others are paying, and I get to pocket the $150 - it's all good.
