The view from my "office"

Saturday afternoon in Adelaide - a Fringe show, the Royal Croquet club, a bit of Sheffield Shield, coughtails then dinner - very enjoyable - love Adelaide when it's all buzzy except for those stupid motor cars racing around

Hate those damn cars. Living in the Eastern suburbs it's a nightmare. So many lost productive hours.

Sounds like an excellent idea. How far out did you need to go to get an open block? Hopefully public transport will be good enough to get you both into work etc. I remember we bought our first house out past Brandon Park, after living in Carnegie. Hopeless bus there but as I got a job at Mount Waverley we could use that as the base for MrLtL to get into town. Canberra was amazing in comparison when we moved here 30+ years ago.

Brandon Park is inner half these days...

Ha, we actually wanted to be in Carnegie! But well out of reach. We'll be in Mt Waverley for a year before we can move. Its quite a way out but I drive to work anyway as its not easy to get to on PT unless you want to train/tram or train/bus. The upside is my best friend is a few minutes up the road, we have a great backyard with an outdoor dining space, and a park around the corner (I may have already tried out the flying fox ).

Mt Waverley is a great area. I worked at Avila College for 6 years, MrLtL was working in the city and that line was one of the best in Melbourne at the time.

We were a bit further out, closer to Police Rd. It's funny that there is a freeway right through there now. It was a bit of a shock from Carnegie though we had been living in a one bedroom apartment there. We had reasonable savings but when we were trying to buy, the bank (Commonwealth from memory) used to have a formula based on an average how much you had over quite a few years to calculate what you could borrow. We were saving a lot but pretty quickly over about 2 years so when averaged over about 8 or so it was not nearly enough to qualify for a house loan in a suburb closer in :(

Roving Singapore - some parts have changed a lot in 10 years ...

When I first saw MBS in a magazine I was like "I don't remember that" and had completely forgotten about all of the land reclamation they do. Something like ~25%??

Prices like this really make me feel ripped off living down under (but lets not go into housing comparisons :p)

LCY departure. Convenient little airport from the city using the DLR. No airport lounges. Lots of Embraers here with what looked and felt like a steeper angle of take off/ascent (presumably due to other traffic in the area?). Interestingly they come in, swivel around to face out on an angle. After boarding just complete the swivel and taxi out. No push back vehicles needed!

I've been to London but never to Harrods. Now I suspect I will never leave London without ever visiting Harrods ever again! Their food hall really blew me away! Loads of fresh tasty looking food including salads, dinner etc! Yum!! Previously thought it was just high end clothing, accessories etc.

Also hit Bali on this trip and stayed overnight at the elephant safari park in Ubud

Saw the talent show 3 times and noted they did rotate the elephants and now I look at it like it's no different from teaching my dog tricks for a bit of mental stimulation.

Play time!

I don't know of any other places which let you get so close, have rides, wash them, and ride on their backs in that oversized pond. (Ok little 'heads up' - yes, they poop in here too. My partner thought they were coconuts at first ). Anyway, great place for just watching these gentle giants.

I've watched them doing work with them at Tarango Zoo to teach them behaviours like foot handling and they use clicker training, in the same manner you do to train a dog. Click and reward, reinforce the behaviour, build the bridge between behaviours, click and reward!

Aborted trip into the mountains today because of a punctured tyre. Big problem was that the wheel was seized onto the hub and needed more leverage to get it free than we could muster. Managed to get a mechanic type guy out from a nearby village and finally put on the temporary spare. Limped back the 80 km to town but it's Sunday so have to wait until the morning for repair.

Harrods food hall is just amazing (well it was when I was there a few years back but assume it hasn't gone to the dogs since). I enjoy drooling over the foods.

I only ended up there because I'd flown QR and discovered "So Jennie" their luxury nonalcoholic bubbles (which I prefer to grapetise.) I googled and could only find it selling in Harrods. So the food hall was a most unexpected find:o. Went back the next day too:oops:.

Will you do a trip report? Costa Rica has been sitting on my to visit list so I'd love to hear more about it.
