The view from my "office"

We are booked for Dubrovnik June next year and thinking about a day trip to Kotor. Is it worth going?

I would say so! It's only about 50km from Dubrovnik, but I'm not too sure how the border crossing works (thinking about how long it might take!). My advice would be to take a bus rather than a tour if you are concerned about the budget. The buses run three or four times a day. I actually took a photo of the return times from Kotor yesterday. We are meeting friends in Dubrovnik in a few week and I am recommending they do a day trip so was getting the info for them.

The old town in Kotor is lovely, and there is a lot to do. There are quite a few churches/museums etc around. We HAD to stick our head into the Cat Museum because it was so unusual. (Kotor's old name was Cattaro, and it is home to many street cats). The climb up the castle walls to St John's for the view above takes about 90 minutes return, depending on how fast/slow you want to go and how many photos you take :-) There are plenty of boat options too - we saw a hop on hop off boat that went to Perast and Our Lady of the Rock for €15 each. Or you could do as Pushka did and spend some time kayaking and swimming.

Hope that helps :-)

Thank you romney :) We were thinking about a day trip in a private car with driver to either Kotor or Mostar in Bosnia. My partner only allows me to pick one and wants to spend a whole 3 weeks seeing Croatia :P Kotor sounds/looks good.

We will be in Mostar in a week or two, so I will let you know what I think.

Did a day trip to Kotor in Montenegro yesterday - absolutely stunning! Only 1300+ steps to get up high enough to take this photo :-)

Hmmm haven't you forgotten something?

Like a Trip Report? ;) Please?

ps anyone contemplating visiting Dubrovnik, I would recommend visiting early morning, especially if there are any cruise ships scheduled. When I was there a few years ago it was simply unpleasantly crowded - not just queues, but streets and squares all packed to the gills - hard to move around.

Hahaha...I have one very big trip report going on, but you will have to go to my blog (see link in my signature below) It's not solely directed at frequent flyers, so not so many details of places we stayed or flights, but those are mentioned too. The "trip report" style posts are the Travel Diary ones. I am about a month behind at the moment but I have a couple of days right now where I am trying to catch up.

Was perusing my QF ff account on the final day of my membership year 31 Aug only to notice that despite earning 1925 SC I'd only completed 2 out of 4 paid flights on QF or JQ metal.

At first I thought it meant I needed two more flights to get a loyalty bonus but alas no, all the QF/JQ flights had been non-earning bar two.

So when it's 1400 and you have just 10 hours left what do you do? A quick return to SYD and back.

The QF points posted the next day but I had to email QFF for the JQ ones which posted yesterday.

While sitting onboard JQ waiting to push back I noticed the code 'V10A' amongst others on my boarding pass and had a minor panic thinking I'd accidentally selected an in-flight voucher instead of points & SC for the crucial squiggle. After texting avgeek friends they assured me the bundle gives you both.

Today we arrived in Sarajevo. Can't wait to get out and look around tomorrow. There are lots of new buildings, but have a look at the bullet holes on one of the old ones we passed.

(Doing this on my phone - hoping it works)

We were there in 2004 & also noted the bullet holes in the tram carriages. We enjoyed some markets while there & the locals used to play chess on the footpaths with oversize pieces. Hope you have a great time.

Yesterday in a part of the WA grain belt that did manage to receive some reasonable rain this winter. Also using it as a tester for uploading pics in the new system.

Timely. There was a write up in WA Today yesterday about how tourists are tramping thru the middle of those crops to get photos... and damaging swaithes of them in doing so. One farmer has set up a "photo plantation", specifically for people to wander into the middle of, to try and combat the problem.

From a few weeks ago, the bosses cousins in Dortmund are heavily into air rifle shooting and once a year they have a schutzenfest. Lot's of pomp and ceremony, although it's slowing down, kids today have other interests.
Much drinking and eating goes on, marching bands and being Germany much smoking. :(

The locals are still playing chess. We were told they are so dedicated that even when they had some -20 degree days last winter they were still out there playing!
