Well spotted! Our guide was a child when they filmed and said it took 5 days and 5 helicopters to grab that 9 seconds:)

Mel Gibson also used it as a model for his Apocalypto movie.

I notice a "Star Wars" shot among your great photos.

I'm glad that comment was explained. I think perhaps some watch too many movies!! ;) :)

On the bright side, at least it shows that 9 seconds was memorable (although not for me, I'm afraid)! I wonder how much a pilot and helicopter was worth for a days hire back then?

You need to slow down a tad, JohnM.

:)

I was expecting that! Here’s the answer:

All car speedos over-register. Allow a titch for enforcement leeway and verify with GPS. Even with all the country driving I do, I’ve not been pinged in the cruise :).

Except occasionally you have a car speedo that under registers which was my unfortunate experience. And not just a little under but 10Kph.
So ever since I know what my true speed is.current Hyundai is on 100kph when reading 102 but at 60Kph it reads 65.

Way OT, but once as a young guy, I had rented a car to go from Gold Coast to Perisher for a weekend of skiing (I used to do silly things like that, as airfares to CBR were prohibitively expensive back in those days).

I was in a hurry (it used to be exactly 14 hours to drive so a few of us would leave work at 3.30 Friday, pick up the hire car and with regular fuel and rest stops, would see us at the lift ticket booth right on opening time and we'd repeat that over Sunday night to be back in time for a 7am start at work) and upon leaving the rental yard, noticed the speedo didn't work. I was done for speeding and the speedo didn't work excuse, didn't work either. The boys in blue seemed to think I should have know 130 was not 100!

There have been a few rather spectacular photos posted on the OTT, and it was suggested that a new thread be started just for this purpose.

So do you have a picture of somewhere special you were this morning you would like to share?

"Somewhere special"? Yes! The smoking area of the camp we have in Norosi, Colombia.

Why special? It has shade and an almost intact roof to keep out the rain. I have a real chair, not a log. I can dry my feet and boots. I have a source of excellent quality water (look closely and see the system to catch the condensation from the aircon). I have a genset to power said aircon. I have a cup of real Colombian coffee made in Colombia. And my house is made of bricks, which all little piggies know is a smart move when there are wolves.... :)
