The view from my "office"

Tuesdays Office was Goma for the European Masterpieces exhibition.
This serene model with an amazing stillness waited patiently for her two lonely artists.

View attachment 259441In our brave new world of hustle, bustle and now… this was some real time imagery of the ways of the old world.

We were fortunate to see these works in Au while the Met is being refurbed.
That was a fantastic exhibition

Two new views today - the first is from room number 2 at the Hilton, Santa Fe, a room with two double beds. This was needed because I fear @drron may have told the Hilton exactly who I was and my Junior Suite overlooked what turned out to be quite possibly the noisiest bar I have ever heard. The windows were literally vibrating. I eventually moved at 11:30 PM to a room where the noise was just about bearable.

The second view was from the reluctantly accepted Junior Suite, and room number 3, on the 9th floor the furthermost room away from the offending bar and its thud, thud, thud. Had I not already organised a covid test, with the company sending someone to the hotel, I would have been on my way to the DoubleTree up the road. It is a shame because the staff at the Hilton have been excellent and the rooms are very nice....but that noise.....

I thought I had timed my "run" to the Hilton at MEX to perfection but alas I had not. My chosen room, with a hope of at least viewing the road, was not ready so it was a room with an "internal view". As sad as this sounds I really can't wait to get back to my "home" - the HI at CVG...and yes it is full on Stockholm syndrome. :p (I guess it could be worse....I could be in Australia :p  )

(Griselda has informed me I will be making something called a "status run" over something called Thanksgiving....I have no idea what she is talking about!!)

Is that the budget version of the famous "wall"??
As an aside the US team have a rescue mission prepared to get me over the Rio Grande if my ESTA reset flight proves problematical. :p

edit - I spent most of the day trying to work out what the addition of AU### meant on my boarding pass until Griselda informed me it was country followed by the last three digits of my passport :D )

This road trip was a little easier than the last time I did it, 10 years ago it was like a washing machine as you went up & down, left & right all in the space of 2 seconds, every 2 seconds for just about the whole way. New roads made it a heck of a lot different. From Monrovia, Liberia up to the Guinea border.

How many wheelbarrows can one fit in a car?

An old mine where the former owners just up sticks and left.

Temperature checks being taken before being let into the border crossing area.

Still, some of the old roads were there...... they haven't quite made it all the way north ;)

Inside seating optional, why not go for the sun roof view?

The main junction as you head out of / back into Monrovia. A hive of activity in the evening!

So I should have landed in Conakry just about... Now. Instead I'm still in Monrovia. The mandatory Government run COVID test process failed, I had a confirmed negative result but they couldn't get it to generate a certificate so I couldn't check in. However, after waiting in the check in line for 1.5 hours they then decided to kindly let me know the flight had been cancelled anyway. Dear me.

Back to the hotel, at least I have some jealousy inducing views. 2 of 4 walls have windows so I get not only the carpark (and HVAC) but also the driveway! How spoilt am I!?

Very poor car park - just goes to show how important the lines are! :p

Not sure where to begin today, so I'll start with my office in the morning - I was the only person in the Admirals Club at MEX today.

My office this evening - because yes I am living in the past, (in more ways than one) is the HI at CVG and I am in the same room but 4 floors higher than last week with a quite spectacular view of I275 heading East. I am not happy with the lines in the car park at the bottom left though.

So that will be my last trip to MEX - ESTA now reset and another two and a half months in the US....with just maybe a sojourn up into Canada now the border is open, figuratively, for the double vaccinated.
