The view from my "office"

Video screenshot of Mrs Guvner’s office view in Taormina. She was supposed to fly from Catania to Rome later today, then PER tomorrow but the airport at CTA was fire damaged a week or so ago. They were slowly bringing it back online but her particular flight was canceled a few hours ago. So I’ve hastily booked her to fly from Comiso instead, with a refundable back up plan of a train/ferry/train to Lamezia on the mainland, then a flight to FCO from there if Comiso is affected.
$450 ride fare to Comiso airport, but no other choice really. Palermo airport also affected by fires. I think the whole island of Sicily will be shut off within a few days unless something drastically changes. Weather has been low- mid 40’s every day.
I've got friends there now. They love the hot weather but are a bit over it.

It seems like yesterday! Oh yes, I was there a fortnight ago! 😄 Our tour leader paid for one of the guys to jump from the bridge. Quite a good viewing audience. So lovely to walk all around that area. We had dinner at a restaurant right on the edge of the road, looking down at the river. Our local guide was passionate about her city and country.

Definitely an area I would like to return to, but I want to go further into the Balkans as well, too many places, too little time. :(

Are there bullet holes in the walls of the buildings? In Tbilisi in 2012 my GM pointed out holes from artillery rounds in building walls. Our Oz news only reported Russia proceeded as far as Sth Ossetia.

Certainly are, even in Croatia in the north near some of the rally stages we went to there were signs of war damage. In fact all through the areas we drove through.

Still issues, the Croatian guide said that the Serbs had made buildings uninhabitable when they left. We saw many burnt out buildings in the country side of B&H, meant to be the remains of Serbs being forced out.

Again, what a stupid waste of life. The above sign has had the Serbian spelling crossed out.
In the south of B&H is the Republika Srpska which is very different to the north.

After a go / no go attempt at this half day trip from Mostar to Blagaj yesterday, today ended up with a little more success.

To see the Dervish House (Tekija) - it was very pleasant to sit in the shade and chill for a bit, it was slightly cooler today but still pretty warm.

Once at the top, the views were pretty impressive all around and made the trek up worth it.

I reckon going down that would be even more painful than the hike up!
