They also use their own weight and a rope attached beneath the seat to propel riders by launching themselves off a ledge.

Unfortunately it didn't end well - for me at least. Essendon got thrashed. I did the walk of shame back to the apartment. But on a good note, the clouds parted this morning so I could get a photo from the balcony.

Currently staying with friends in Niebull, Germany. He does love his garden, so it has been a very pretty “office” these last few days.

Back to the old Tokaido road in Shinagawa. Thanks to reading the Shimbamba article I was able to find several points of interest. One was the 2 mile marker which is now a small park - the Hinkai Park. A small park with a garden, play area and conveniences.














So one of Shinagawa's top 100 scenic spots.

The old highway was close to the coast. One of the most significant buildings in the area was the Shinagawa Honjin. Accommodation for feudal lords and high officials of the Emperor. This building was on the Coast. It was not needed after the Meiji restoration and was converted to the police convalescent hospital. That was demolished in the late 1930s and all that is left now is a small park - The Sacred Spot park.

What a lovely setting. All you need now is a billy on the fire and meat on the hotplate, PERfect.

Just pop down the road to Alfred's kitchen, as good as!

Cissbury Ring, Sussex... in the "height of summer", you can just see the sea in the distance under the dark cloud.

My afternoon “office” on the Hamburg waterfront. Very busy with ferries over to the Lions King performance. The yellow theatre can been seen in front of the ship. No idea why this cargo ship was being towed, but the passengers were enjoying the view!







Edit: This is a Hamburg based museum and hotel ship. Still don’t know why the tugs for and aft.

Lovely looking 'old' style freighter. There were still many of these style ships serving Fremantle in in the early 1970's when I was first stationed there. I can still remember frozen meat being loaded by cargo net and new cars being unloaded by slings - only 50 years ago. They look so much more attractive than the ubiquitous Container and Ro Ro ships. But of course they are nowhere near as efficient.

My second “office” this morning is the very uninspiring Aspire lounge at AMS. I asked to go into the Oneworld Priority Lounge but was told I can’t because I’m flying Emirates.

The Aspire Lounge is completely full. Upon entering there is a lady offering a QR wait list code that will let you know when your name comes up for entry. Not for business class, of course. There is a back corner of the Aspire lounge that is signposted “Singapore Airlines”. The only gin is Gordon’s! Food is basic and little to choose from. Two soups and two breads, slices of cheese and a fruit salad.

I put my luggage in storage as I was three hours too early for check in. The agent gave me the first boarding pass so that I could get through the gates. When I come back through border control, I wonder if I’ll get a second entry stamp?





The earlier Emirates flight has just been called, do the lounge has emptied a bit. There is a queue of people ready to take those places!

Again back to my walk on the old Tokaido road. There is actually a little bit of the harbour left from early times. These photos are taken less than 50 metres from the Shinagawa Honjin site. And that was on the waterfront.

Amazing when this is only about 1Km from Shinagawa station. A path less traveled though.
