I have seen this with a number of car hire companies now, sometimes its better to rent for longer than shorter, specifically around the three day mark, with both Hertz and Europcar I have seen it cheaper to run the rental into 4 days than it is to rent for just three, I often try to time flights to prevent the need for a few extra hours rental, in some cases that might be costing me money!

Some also charge you 2 day rate if you hire the car for 25hours

Quite true, it was not too long ago that Hertz changed their grace period to 30 minutes, making a 24 hour and 35 minute rental quite expensive.

I frequently get a taxi to the hotel and pick hire cars up the next day for that reason. ADL seems to be the worst as its a late afternoon flight in and one days car hire goes out the door for the sake of a $20 cab fare

That also helps reduce the premium location surcharge, I often do the same in DRW when getting QFLink from CNS.

I've done that sine we spoke about it over a beer in DRW from memory. From the Esplanade the hire car companies are a shore walk.

my 3000th post BTW :-)

Yes, Hertz a block up, Avis a block across (great team) and Europcar two blocks across.

What is the best (easiest) location to do this in BNE, rather than hire from airport?
Thx in Advance.

Any location downtown suits once you take into account the train fare, Avis and Europcar are close to the valley while Hetz is in town.

Mky Airport has at least 2 car agencies just outside the terminal so I just take a 1 minute walk and pick up the car.

Save the premium surcharge.

But if you walk to the counter the girl will serve you and then will take car from the same spot, and no surcharge if it is a flight outside of business hours.

Dropping off in BNE can be a pain as you have to try and find a servo.

The closet to the city is either Milton or Bowen Hill or the valley.

Generally I have found that if you hire from Brisbane CBD, drop off at the airport is fine (with no extra charge). In these case I ofen fill up at the Hamilton BP or maybe the shell near the airport.

Shell near the airport is generally the most expensive petrol in BNE.

I would fill up at Hamilton BP or Shell Hamiltion,

They are all close, but the closest to cbd would be shell north quay.. The two near woolies in the valley are the other 2closest.

The valley ones are very handy to both Avis and Europcar, and there is a woolies at Bowen Hills on Sandgate road which I also use when I have 24c vouchers. If you are coming in from the south there is a BP at East Brisbane just before Wellington Rd & Shafston Ave.

I always click on the Specials link to see if anything suits my needs. I recently hired a car from Hertz at AKL for 7 days and paid for 5. This obviously had to be booked from the NZ website.
The original estimate was NZD$509, returned 3 hours early and charged NZD$453 for 7 days...Camray or eqivalent...given a Holden Epica.
