I guess clearly in the realm of "galley gossip", but I have from a "reasonable" source, that the map of Tassie is poised to sport three new erections. Three brand new DoubleTrees........where? Unknown (but Pt Arthur was mentioned as possible for one).

Oh, and slightly OT, it was also mentioned that Hilton was keen to expand the DT brand in Oz.

Was tossing up between Tassie in winter or Queenstown. Maybe I'll save Tassie for next year. ;-)

Very welcome if it comes off. Hobart is very short of decent hotel rooms and would be a no-brainer. Port Arthur could do with anything good, but I question if the market is there. Mostly a day trip from Hobart for tourists. beyond that, nothing obvious. In the state there is the Federal Hotels chain - who have built 4-5 star places at all the major tourist destinations (eg Saffire at Coles Bay; the 2 casinos, Strahan Village, Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart (and a new one being built) etc.

On my last couple of trips to Hobart over the last 6 months , what I have noticed was the visible numbers of overseas tourists when arriving & departing HBA airport (particularly Both individual and large organised tour group's from the Asian region).
My observations were backed up when speaking to staff at major tourist attractions such as MONA, Port Arthur & Cascade Brewery, who also stated overseas tourism is on the rise.
So with a rise in tourism, no wonder that a chain like Hilton is looking to expand their footprint in the Apple Aidle.

Last year I had been told by a Hilton Hotel manager that they had alot of hotels in the pipeline but unfortunately I never had the chance to find out more.

It's about time Hobart gets some decent hotel chains. Last time there I stayed at Rydges (hoping to utilise my platinum card) and it was beyond horrible...

I'm just looking to book a trip during Dark mof_ and most reasonable hotels (both in price and quality) seem to be RACV or the Grand Chancellor. Would prefer to stay in DT.

We have stayed at the Rydges Hobart too, it was like Fawlty Towers - lucky it was for only one night !!

fricken awesome if tassie gets this - i've been meaning to go down there for quite a while now - this is just the push I need

P.S. hiltons totally don't effect my travel plans :$

Great news if it happens. I travel down for both work (usually Launceston) and recreation a fair bit so would love to have a Hilton option
