Hello. I am looking for some information regarding how long it takes for other airlines to drop a booking when it hasn't been ticketed by QANTAS. This seems to be a regular occurrence.

So I remember reading that Malaysian is really quick - (5 hours??) but I am asking specifically about BA & JAL.

Nevertheless, if there was an article about this that highlighted why it is important to know and why ticketing is so important, or a reference list about the times til bookings drop off the Partner airline system, it would be an invaluable reference.

While I'm here, a related article (if there is one) about identifying the travel classes on partner airlines, and even QANTAS would also be valuable. For example, what does Y mean on JAL? 😳

Thanks!

BA, JL and AY are at the better end of the spectrum.

I had a OWA survive several weeks unticketed earlier this year with BA, JL and AY on the booking.

MH and QR are very quick to take back unticketed inventory, as you’ve noted. The timing varies by airline and other factors like available inventory. The common ticketing time limits I have seen are:
- Midnight on the day of booking (either GMT or midnight at the carrier’s home port)
- Time of booking +24hrs
- and sometimes, midnight on the day of booking +24h.

On your second question, Y is the fare code for economy used by all airlines. You might find this article on fare classes useful.

Thanks, Capt! Raising a glass for the article. It's an excellent primer. Now... I wonder if we can get the other one written, too but yu have at least, put my mind at ease for my current bookings......🍷

And I'm found another article I'd love to see. (Or is there one already?)

Interesting thread. What about Emirates? I haven’t noticed anyone report a ticketing problem with EK yet.
