Looking at going to Tokyo from SYD through OOL. I'm looking at the cost of full *class from SYD to NRT and it seems a bit senseless having to pay almost $1300 each way from SYD-NRT for QF points and SC's vs $1000 from OOL-NRT. It makes the economy SYD-OOL JQ legs $500-600. I'm considering breaking the journey and doing it in 2 tickets - SYD-OOL and OOL-NRT.

To time the flights correctly, how long is needed to clear domestic OOL carousels and then checkin for the international JQ legs and clear customs?

Thanks

I wouldn't imagine that you would need that long, both terminals are in the same building.

I seem to remember the QP telling people doing an international connection to Jet* to leave at least 40 - 50 minutes earlier than the specified boarding time.

If as you mentioned it is booked as two separate tickets then I doubt Jetstar would check your bags all the way through to NRT. They normally don't interline to/from domestic Jetstar flights.

So you would have to arrive at OOL. Wait for you bags that might take 5 to 20 minutes. Maybe 5 minutes to walk to the international checkin section. You could check in online, but even still I would expect you would have to bag drop at least an hour before departure. So bare minimum would be 90 minutes with luggage. But really you would want to leave at least 2 hours if not longer. Jetstar recommend at least three hours for separate bookings.

What are the flight numbers?

Even if you did book SYD/OOL/NRT vv on the same pnr, if your first flight is on a JQ dom flight they would not transfer the bags anyway so you would still need to collect them in OOL & recheck.
