Hi everyone,

Only became aware of the wonderful world of FF programs last year after joining Velocity after getting the Virgin Money Visa. Now I'm member of the QF, CX, AQ and MH programs also - trying to make up for lost time!

Been devouring amazing resources of AFF for the past few months and feel I have barely scratched the surface.

Currently working on a return trip to Europe with Mrs D in J later this year. Currently thinking purchased AQ points via HK and MR points to MH on the way back.

Look forward to contributing in the future!!

Welcome to AFF davetonio!

Good luck planning your trip.

And another welcome aboard, look forward to hearing about your travel planning and eventual trip.

Hi davetonio,

Welcome to AFF.

Thanks everyone, bit nervous as organising the flights this week - hopefully the award availability doesn't disappear in the meantime! A bit of a departure for me from just trying to book the cheapest Y fare possible!

Hope you are getting best value for your points by booking in J? You'll never go back...well, not willingly.

Edit: I see now from your original post that you will indeed be flying J.

Welcome aboard mate! I know the feeling of what you mean by departing from the Cheapest Y fare possible.....this forum gives out great advice in making J possible with a little bit of forward planning at a respectable price .

What parts of Europe do you plan to visit?

The plan is to take an extended four week break - catch up with friends in London, then holiday in France, Italy (especially my favourite the Amalfi coast) and the Greek islands. I haven't been to Europe since I lived in the UK 7 years ago so very excited! Apart from my (AFF inspired) J long haul plans I'm sure I'll still be using some heavily discounted LCC Ryanair and Easyjet flights for shorthaul within Europe - old habits die hard!

Sounds like some great Travel planned for Europe! Some amazing food & culture to be enjoyed no doubt!

Im with you on the European LCC, they are excellent value for money, providing you follow 'their rules' to the Tee.
I've had some great £5 fares( all inclusive) from Ryanair's main base of STN, but the 6 am departures are not for the faint hearted!.

Jet2 based in the North of England are probably the best for flight schedules I must admit, flew from MAN > CDG at a respectable 4:00pm in the afternoon on a Friday last year, for only £20...... Was a no brainer!

On a side note , Jet2 have a couple of previous Ansett Australia aircraft in their fleet, it was kind of strange sitting in a plane knowing the previous livery was Decked out in familiar colours.

Enjoy your travels to Europe, remember to take lots of photo's!

An update: I tried to purchase the AQ miles literally on the first or second day after they changed the rules to disallow o/s cc's. A quick lesson in the closing of loop holes & FF tricks !

Re-worked the itinerary now I'm there and back with MH in J utilising a combo of MR points and a bit of cash+miles, though now unfortunately no HKG stop :(. Booked flights BNE-KUL-LHR on Friday and will be booking IST-KUL-BNE as soon as Mrs D's bonus points credit for her new Amex gold charge! All in all not a bad change (slightly cheaper than AQ bought miles) and we end up with rtn flights to Europe in J for around economy cash fares! Looking forward to my first booked international J travel experience - thanks AFF!!
