I have a question regarding the validity of Award Tickets on QFF.

Is it valid for 12 months from the date that the ticket was booked? (AA have this restriction)

Or is it valid for 12 months from the date of the first flight of the original booking?

The reason I ask is that the 'phone staff gave two different answers. I did the ring, hang up and ask again.

Any help, especially pointing to written material gratefully accepted.

I guess it would help to understand why this is even an issue.

To change a Qantas issued reward ticket costs (I think) 2500 Qantas points.

Even if you do not go to the airport (ie a no show) and phone Qantas you will get back all points minus a 5000 service fee.

So, the tickets are very flexible (subject to the booking class eg X being available [don't even think about playing (changing) with a U redemption though])

Tickets are usually valid for 12 months from the date of ticket issue. For a Qantas FF Class Award flight, you can only book a maximum of 353 days ahead, so ticket validity only applies if you try to change the date of the flight later. And the points cost to cancel the ticket and issue a new one is the same as making a change (5000 points), so no reason not to cancel and rebook a new one and get another 12 months.

For Any Seat Awards, changes may be permitted for a $ fee and as these are basically commercial fares bought with points, the ticket validity will be per the fare rules for the specific ticket issued and I would expect that would normally be 12 months from ticket issue.
