Not sure if this is widely done but thought I would share a quick tip. In the past few weeks I have been looking at topping up my QFF points. Bought an iPhone 5 using my Woolworths qantas credit card and got the points and then relisted using the buy it now option it at the same price plus postage and ebay fees. Got approx 600 points. Repeated this with a camera I bought and in the last two weeks I have got 1600 QFF points for only the effort of relisting and posting the item.

Was wondering if any other posters are doing this? I am sure this has been posted on here before because the posters on this forum are some of the most point savy I have ever seen.

Hi, not sure I understand this. As an ebayer from way back, what do you mean 'relisted'? That usually refers to selling as averse to buying something (and eg paying w' WEDRCC).

Basically, I bought the iphone off ebay and relisted it for a little more than I paid (to take into account ebay fees and postage).

Thanks

I sold it as well as the camera within a day of relisting it. There is a risk in this strategy that you wont resell the item but I was sure to buy products that are in high demad on eBay. End result was I had approx 1600 QFF points for no spend in my account.

Given that Ebay takes about 10% of the sale price and PayPal takes another few % you need to be making 10%+ on each sale to break even

Agreed- you have to factor all that in to the relisting price but if you pick the right product (one in demand) and are able to buy it at less then its resale value, you can easily break even. In fact on the Phone and I made a slight profit ($10) and on the camera I came out with a loss of $15. So all in all it was good business for 1600 free points. It may seem like more trouble than its worth but really it was at simple as bidding, working out the fees and postage and relisting the items with a markup. The big hassle is physically posting the items.

I have heard of people buying American Itunes vouchers (which are discounted compared to Australia), getting the Frequent Flyer points and reselling them with codes on eBay. This requires no postage since you simply send them the Itunes codes.

Tip: Your original purchase would have earned 1 velocity point per $ spent as well using the shop and earn portal.

Hmmm, is there a way you could use a PayPal account, not so much eBay, and just you list the same product several times (eg gumtree??) and you buy it with your own credit card several times, and earn points for each credit card transaction minus a couple % that PayPal take out for their service??

Can you advertise say on Gumtree with a PayPal account and not use eBay or is there only certain places that you can use the PayPal service?

I like this thought. I think this needs to be explored.

If it can be done would say a 10% of points earnt be suitable as my intellectual content contribution to this scheme?? :)

All you'd have to do is list a Rolls Royce a few times and you'd be set... :)

Perhaps a volunteer to dry run this w' maybe a small item x 5 or whatever ... and report, gmartin perhaps :)

It also begs the question as why not get a friend to 'list' items on ebay and you "buy" them through paypal using your credit card. Friend simply reimburses what you paid and you make sure he is not out of pocket from a fee perspective. So all it would cost you is the ebay fees.

Yes, i was going to add that the best way to not get your cc/PayPal account frozen or a rather unpleasant phone call about what exactly is going on would be only to do it once or twice, or to keep it going for longer would be to establish a network of like minded people to 'buy and sell' off each other...

PS i'm sure in the history of the internet schemes such as this have been thought up and probably established, for example, to click on people's websites and banner adds to rack up views and click throughs, and that one or two monitoring systmes have probably been worked out... :)

Haha yes it would need a major operation to keep it off the radar of eBay/Paypal. But it is possible to do it once for say a $5k transaction but the downside is that if eBay take a 10% fee off the tip, you are basically paying $500 for +- 5000 points..

Looking quickly at PPal fees, it seems to be less than the 10% mentioned:

Using your linked credit or debit card
2.4% + $0.30 per transaction. As the sender, you can decide who’ll pay the fee.

Yeah the 10% was if you got Ebay involved, the fees for PayPal were going to be lower... 2.4% probably isn't that bad if you have something you are specfically trying to achieve but i prefer only paying about 1 cent per point of possible...

Really not sure why you guys think this is a good way to get points when you can regularly buy off Lifemiles/US for under 2c?

I didn't necessarily think it was a great deal, other than if you needed QFF points specifically to get you to a redemption target and you were that far short... Although cc sign ups and other ways are cheaper and better...

But seeing i just let my QFF points slowly build up over time i will be going the USDM/AA/LM route...
