To QF Eco. or JQ Bus?.

Was about to book two JQ Star Class seats for good woman and I for holiday in Honolulu, price when I looked last week was around $2700 each ret..

I see now they now call it "Business Class!" same plane same seats!!, at first I thought it was some kind of joke but its not April 1st., but price now its $4K each!, however, the blurb I received says a QFF member (as we are) can now claim QFF points, my understanding was I always could on a JQ flight?.

So now to my questions.

I don't mind extra fuel charges to this JQ flight (a month ago it was $2.5k each) but someone tell me how it can be $1.7K more each as Jetstar can not.

Having flown Star Class before, we know these seats (I'm round), are we better off going Q in economy (around $2.5K each ret) as the seats could well be same size and area?.

Ok less QFF points as its not J, but its a lot less dollars for basically the same thing, and we prefer Q anyway and get a fair amount of QFF points going economy anyway.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

If wanting to be assured of an on-time departure and arrival, I'd go with QF in any class over JQ in any class. If on holiday then perhaps reliability isn't as important and I'll simply go with JQ "Business" for the extra comfort, amenity and QFF accrual, and put up with the inevitable long delays.

$4k to HNL is way overpriced for a premium economy product.

I have flown numerous times to the USA with JQi in Star Class (& connecting to the contiguous States via HNL).

Previously their discount (promo) fares were like many other airlines "D" class fares. i.e. some restrictions/less flexibility (which I didn't need), but still with all the trappings of Business Class, e.g. earn points & lounge access.

Now that they have decided to also remove points/status earning (and lounge access) on their discounted business fares, I am looking forward to finding out what Strategic (Air Australia?) are going to offer premium customers, flying to the USA (presumably HNL).

Not sure when they are intending to launch, or the time frame the OP is looking at flying.

Yes QF @ $4k is expensive for basic J.

Just used Seat Guru to see any differences on that particular flight and aircraft seat used.

QF Y are 17 x 31
NZ 17.6 x 32
JQ 18 x 31

So bugger all difference, but the extra in JQ seat width is better (but 1.5 less than JQ in J tho).

Booking Y on JQ is around $3.7 for both of us 24Dec/31Dec. 2011 (latter leg is discounted), can claim QFF points too, also, have stacks of QFF points should we elect to try for a JQ in J upgrade.

and QF009, its a vacation so any flight changes (as happened last time at same destination is not a worry flew home with QF in J 2 only hours late).
