I would like to join in and with respect hope its ok to ask here.

I have a qantas frequent flyer card it is a red card and it says master debit visa card. Since it has recently change the cards for all qantas frequent flyer cards.

I have aproximate 38,000 points. I have never used the points but sure has taken me 8 years to reach to 38,000 so far.

I have a long haul flight with finnair comming up soon and return i have added my card to receive points,

Now.. What happens if i was to buy something on qantas store by using my exsisting points ? Will i be in a stuck issue for providing my card that later may have hardly no points by the time i travel ? I paid my booking flights just cash never used points.. and 38.000 points does not seem a lot. But i guess it lets you buy a pen or something on qantas store if i was to use my points. But same time i dont want to have no points. But would be nice to buy something free by using points. But what are the consequences and does it make no differents either you have 38.000 or 00000 points at all when check in at the airport ? Since i mainly booked my tickets and everything online by using a credit card with cash and not with any sociated with qantas frequent flyer card. Its a red card look alike like a credit card.

Ive been collecting points over 8 years this is how slow and low amount i have., Not even 38.000 is not even enough for a free business class for a long haul what so ever it would take me another 10 odd years to collect lots of points. Its slow stacking.. Might as well use the points to what i have and buy something otherwise i will end up been collecting points slowly for another 10 odd years and doesnt seem to be much of a great deal really. But i want your opinions.

Any advice to what might happen? would i still loose my qantas card even if i used the points and leave just 5 points in it instead ? what might happen. Please let me know but same time i still rather collect points but its very slow stacking really. Should i take the brivilage to buy something on qantas store for free with points or best i dont? your opinion?

I have taken the liberty of moving your post into a thread all for itself.

I think most here will agree with me in saying that using your points in the Qantas store for a pen or some other such novelty gift (like a toaster) would be a bad use of your points. If you really wanted to use your points, I'd consider using 10k for an upgrade on a short haul domestic flight from economy to business, or even 36k on a business award flight to New Zealand ;)

I believe the card you're referring to is the Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card which also acts as a credit card if you load cash onto the card. It's mainly used to provide your frequent flyer information.

There is no consequences to using your frequent flyer points on the Qantas store, you don't need a points balance to fly. Most of members in the forum would agree that spending your points on the Qantas store isn't the best way to spend your points.

I'd recommend that you hold onto your points or use them towards a flight redemption.

Barbra's threads should become mandatory for all AFF newbys. Excellent training material.

You're allowed to fly without having any points, in case you think there's some sort of minimum requirement.
