Tokyo Haneda slot - how will Virgin Operate it?

How come? Welcome to AFF! Irasshaimase!
Jetstar cancelled my return flight from Tokyo to OOL without telling me - only found out because I logged into my account 5weeks before travel to check the details before organising airport transfers. Offered me a flight home 2 weeks later. Not really acceptable to my employer and not sure how I'd pay for an extra 2 weeks of holiday accommodation.. would have been nice though! I think notifying me of cancellation was a basic courtesy. They did give a refund but I had to book alternative flight with Qantas at 3X original cost. Now I am generally uneasy wondering if Jetstar will also cancel my flight there...

Qantas flights out of Brisbane to Tokyo are overnight on the way out leaving at 10pm which I am afraid of with 2 young children...

And there we have it. I would hope there is at least regular Water/Tea/Coffee drink runs in Y over the 7 hours assuming VAi 'Short Haul' keeps their LCC BoB menu in Y.

Indeed, no different to the DPS route i guess, although if connecting from the southern cities thats 10 hours in a 737 ........and no lounge in CNS

This is exciting!!!

I would also assume that this is likely around that date that the partnership between ANA and Virgin would be finally in effect - offering Velocity members earn/burn across the NH network and vice versa ?

Hopefully the timing will be right.

As no doubt they will try to funnel domestic connections through Cairns I expect it will be lounge worthy.
Anyone know what happened to the lounge after it’s closure ?

Smart move by VA, given the high prices of airfares, this is the least cost option to operate the route. Whilst AFFers won't fly this route, there will be a lot of people who would if the price is right.
The NH codeshare plus the widely expected Queensland Government AAIF funding should at least cover some of the expected start up losses as well. There would be no doubt Bain had applied for Queensland Government AAIF funding to reduce their startup expenses.

Well, then they'd need two lounges, one in the international terminal for outbound, and one in the domestic terminal for inbound.

For one narrowbody route, that probably won't have many premium pax, I doubt it.

Potential NH connections to other major cities to Japan, only a matter of time. 7 hours on a 737, if its low cost leisure travellers might go for it.

Though it is competing with Jetstar, which has its own Jetstar Asia connections in Japan...

Not sure how this will work operationally, they don’t appear to have any crew based in Cairns and one would assume they would try and open a Haneda Cabin crew base. The gap between flights would indicate they can’t really do any flight in between, as such the one MAX is permanently allocated to Cairns for this route only.

They don't need to have a crew base in either city. We'll work into CNS, overnight then carry onto HND.

For those of us who live down the southern parts of Aust, this would mean having to get up to CNS the day before, ideally, the afternoon prior, to be sure.
Haven't had an indepth look, but I don't think that VAd flies from ADL - CNS, direct, so it would mean a midday flight, the day prior from ADL - SYD, then evening flight from SYD - CNS and then CNS - HND.
Adding costing and time spent, NH direct from SYD would be a better use of time.
Other only option by the looks of it, would be to JQd it, 7.40am, ouch, too early.

So this service is commencing June. Did they have until March to reveal plans, or commence the service?
