On a recent JQ flight a passenger asked the CM if they could reheat the Hungry Jacks burger in the oven.
Not unless VA skimps on the aircon to save fuel
🫢 urgh.Does the whole plane subsequently smell like dog food?
My very first A380 Flight was LAX-MEL. I had 66 C.

Last people on board were 66DEFG occupants (2 Adults, 2 mid teens) carrying bags of In'nOut.

I woke up mid flight to a foul smell - the crew has tried to heat up the contents of the bags. I have not been able to look at or consider an In 'n Out since ... that odour is seared into my senses ...

Interesting as the JQ CM refused. They still ate it cold even though it was probably two hours old.

In N Out is actually really bad if not eaten quickly. I can generally stomach ’warm’ KFC and McDonalds, but by the time we got to Santa Monica it was gross, only 20 mins.

No, plane smelt like two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun 😂.

Anyway don’t know if Maccas is in the Haneda terminal to allow for this on the return flight catering 😂.

Betty's Burgers, Boost Juice or Tex Mex Salsas may be a better bet. They are affiliates of Virgin through both being owned by Bain.

Although Bain is the process of selling Boost Juice/Betty's Burgers/Tex Mex Salsa back to an Australian PE firm (Adamantem Capital) with the Boost Juice founder owning 10%.

Just done a return to Japan on JQ via CNS, I know purely anecdotal but flights were empty both directions (<20% load) with seemingly majority connecting from southern cities. (And JQ has better connections generally than VA will)

I know its not high season but i cant see how using the 73M is going to make more money than on domestic on even short haul intl routes.

But it’s not about making money. It’s about preserving a use it or lose it slot at HND, at least until Bain can sell some or all of the airline to new owners, whilst being subsidised by the government to operate the route.

A slot if only useful if the route makes money though, otherwise we are going back VA1, operating routes for prestige not for profit, AKA HKG.

Totally. If a route makes a loss, the slot is actually a debt and not an asset.

If VA don't use the HND slots before the deadline, they'll be forced to give them back to IASC for reallocation, at which point QF will get them. IASC is highly unlikely to give VA any more extension to use the slots.

VA either has to make the HND slots work with what they have, or give them to QF.

It’s a placeholder whilst someone (ie new owner) determines VA’s longer term strategy (I.e if they think they can make money by setting up long haul international operations or not). Simple as that. If they decide no, the route and the slot will be gone in a flash.

I personally don’t think it makes sense for VA to expand internationally into long haul again, but I’ve never worked for an airline so wouldn’t have a clue. Meantime, with support of the Qld government Bain is hedging its bets.
