Transfer between Taipei Airports

Hi,

Next July I have a J rewards flight home from Europe via Taipei, unfortunately the only option I could find requires me to transfer from Songshan Airport to Taoyuan Airport. I land at 17:00 and have seven hours for the transit, so plenty of time, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on the best option for the transfer. I see there is a direct bus, or the train which would involve a change of lines. A taxi/Uber could be an option though it would be peak hour on the roads, and I'm ok with carting my luggage around on public transport.

Any advice most appreciated.

Never done a transfer between TPE and TSA myself, but echo the fact that getting to TPE on the metro from downtown Taipei is pretty easy. If you're going as soon you arrive at TSA, take the brown line to Nanjing Fuxing, then switch to the green line and head to Beimen station, from where you can walk underground to the Taoyuan Airport MRT entrance. Now that I write that out it sounds slightly awkward. :)

The Taoyuan Airport MRT's terminal stop is technically part of Taipei Main Station, but it's kind of a long walk to get to the Airport MRT gates from the other lines, and the walk from Beimen is shorter. But either way, signage should make it clear where you have to go.

With a seven hour connection I'd be considering a quick detour in Taipei if you don't mind dragging your luggage around.

Have done all 3 ways between TPE and TSA admittedly it’s been a few years but I found a taxi the easiest and quickest even with traffic.
The bus was cheap and efficient and got us there in just under 80 minutes. I had armed myself with TWD as was forewarned that the bus driver only accepts cash, I wasn’t told that they don’t hand out change though and that they keep the rest. Lesson learnt. The train was more hassle for us and I’m not sure if we did it wrong but we changed trains twice and the journey took over 90 minutes. Taxi took under an hour and didn’t have to struggle with luggage. If you are travelling with a family I reckon a taxi doesn’t work out that much more expensive but YMMV

Thanks for that, it doesn't sound awkward at all. I'll be back in Taipei late next year on a cruise so will get to see it then. With this trip I will have flown overnight from Europe to Tokyo, then on to Taipei, so my plan is to just go to TPE and hit the lounge for a hot shower and some relaxation time :)
