I was recently told by my travel agent that QANTAS would no longer transfer luggage to another airline (in this case Singapore airlines and I could not use the QANTAS transfer unless I was travelling on qantas internationally as well as domeistically. I didn't have the problem last time I flew doing this (February to US using United). Could anyone confirm this is the case?

Will it be on the same ticket, as that could be what your answer comes down to for a non alliance/QF partner airline

I can't comment on the interline agreement QF may or may not have with SQ, but correct the transfer bus is only meant for QF pax with an onwards flight on QF.

I have used it both ways with JQi. Perhaps it is hit or miss as with Lounge Dragons?

Used not to be a problem. I don't know whether it was because I am qantas club member. Only silver though. It would be on a different ticket, but again I have had no problems linking them in the past. In fact QANTAS have done it for me at canberra airport in the past to my surprise.

I know Qantas made some baggage changes last year.. I still don't think they would check through your luggage though as SQ isn't a OW carrier either. I can't find the relevant link either.

I haven't actually booked the Canberra Sydney leg as yet, just the sydney singapore leg. It was when i was thinking about choices my TA said that I would not be able to organise the linking of qantas singapore. I am just trying to find out whether she was correct and whether QATAS have changed their policies.

True only for International (T1) to Domestic (T3).

If transferring from Domestic (T3) to International (T1) you simply need to have travelled on or be travelling on a oneworld/Qantas flight.

Thank you. It makes sense based on past experience. I have also managed to get booked through at T1 by just showing my qantas club memebership. I also tend to take all evidence of the SA flight. i might try it again.

I didn't think the travel agent had it right but could not find the details.

Interesting enough i was giving some through to taking the bus from Canberra 3 hours to the international terminal at $30. Might still try it to see how comfortable a trip it is. I wouldn't do it on the way back.

thanks all

I believe QF will not interline to SQ if the tickets are separate

This was an improvement to the Qantas customer experience instituted in October last year. Must noe be on same PNR for through checking of luggage to a non one-world carrier such as SQ. More details in a downloadable pdf here.

Thanks for the link dajop

Kind of related, in a few months I am flying QF31 to SIN and then connecting to SQ462 to MLE the next morning. If I have checked luggage and want to stay at the airside hotel ..... what is the logical baggage process I should take?

SQ allow early check in for flights, so you can collect bags and check in for the MLE flight (I think you should be OK). Alternatively IIRC Changi allows you to leave bags on carousel, and you can claim them the next morning from lost bags.
