Hi everyone,

I have an existing trip booked between TPE and HKG on CX in January, and now need to book a flight to WUH in Mainland China (connecting after I get off the CX flight at HKG). Unfortunately the CX/KA flight time on that day doesn't suit (only an 8am-ish departure available, which is too early given my connecting flight) so I am considering booking the CZ flight, which leaves a couple of hours later.

Before booking the CZ trip, I called CX reservations (called to the Taipei office) to check suggested transit time. CX advised that they would send the luggage onto the next flight in HKG, regardless of the airline operating the next flight. This seems odd because I've never heard of that happening before unless there was an interline agreement between the airlines.

Can anyone shed some light on this? The HK Airport site says there is a CZ transfer desk within the terminal (i.e. you don't need to pass customs to transfer onto CZ from CX), so this seems to confirm that there is a way to just connect without passing immigration. However I wanted to double check given that there is luggage involved.

Any advice from the well traveled would be appreciated!

you want to make double sure CX will interline with CZ. if they do then you're fine... arrive at HKG, find the CZ transit desk, get boarding pass, proceed through transit/transfer security and back to departures level.

i think the minimum connecting time in HKG is something like an hour (give or take) for airlines other that CX/KA.

I would leave a lot more than that, particularly if you're on a small plane that could leave from the 500 gates. personally I would allow 2.5 hours between flights on separate tickets.

CX do interline to CZ but I guess no guarantees if you are on separate tickets.

Worth having your eticket for CZ ready at the CX checkin and asking them to tag you all the way to WUH.

If not CZ closes checkin 1 hour before departure so agree 2+ hours would be best to account for delays at immigration or collecting your bag.

Let us know how you go, I'm curious to see if CZ transfer desk will reroute the baggage for you without having to collect it.

Can confirm this is possible. CX interline with CZ and they will check your luggage all the way at the check in desk at TPE. Happy travels :)

Thanks guys for the helpful replies! I will let you know how I get on in January.

To be honest, I'm not too worried about CX being able to do it (based on what they've said, and what you guys have confirmed) - I'm more worried about it getting accepted on the CZ flight.

I have booked a CX flight that arrives in HKG at 8:50am, so that should leave me plenty of time to make the 11:25am CZ flight if there are no delays :)

Thanks again!
