Hi all,
I'm holding a non-resident visa in Australia and there are only a handful of travel insurances available that would cover me for my travel from Melbourne to Bali. Would like some advice on below scenario:-
Jetstar JQ43 has been cancelling flights on a frequent basis for the past 1 week (3 cancellations so far) and I'm worried that my upcoming flight may be cancelled as well and having booked an expensive non-refundable hotel accommodation and with my limited time in Bali (4D3N), it would be in my best interest to buy a travel insurance that covers flight cancellation. Is there any recommended travel insurance company for such cover?
I have purchased Worldcare and it doesn't cover mechanical breakdown but does this clause cover my prepaid accommodation and enable me to book another flight with another carrier should Jetstar decides to cancel my flight due to commercial reasons/mechanical breakdown?
We will pay your Reasonable additional travel expenses to reach awedding, funeral, conference, sporting event or prepaid travel/tour arrangements on time if your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted and that means you would not arrive on time. -> Does prepaid travel/tour arrangements constitute prepaid accommodation? (Rebook another with another carrier that can get me to Bali asap (be it Virgin/Tiger/SQ etc))
And if Jetstar were to put me to another flight/route causing me to miss 1-2 days of Bali, does it constitute flight cancellation or delay?
Alternative, I have a look at Columbus Direct and their Travel Delay compensation seems to be attractive (Cash benefits)
"delayed by at least 6 hours fromthe time shown in the official itinerary as supplied to you dueto strike, industrial action, riot, hijack, civil unrest, adverseweather conditions, a natural disaster in your Country ofResidence, traffic flow congestion or mechanical breakdown."
And it covers mechanical breakdown as well. But with Jetstar cancelling JQ43 that frequently (probably due to commercial reasons, which i don't know) how likely is this policy relevant for me??
And the abandonment:
up to the amount stated in the Schedule (Abandonment)for the final invoiced paid costs of the Trip that youcannot recover from any other source if you decide toabandon your Trip after at least 12 hours delay from thetime of departure stated in the official travel itinerary.
