Travel Ideas for Feb '13?

Hi Guys,

Looking for suggestions or recommendations for a 2-3 week break in early Feb 2013. I'm not restricted as to where in the world I go (had been thinking South America/Caribbean), but I will be tacking the trip on to the end of 2 weeks in coughet.

I realize its not a great time of year to travel, but as a shift worker my leave options are limited.

The only desirable thing really, was to keep one season of clothing Appreciate your help folks!

We visited Sri Lanka in Feb 2012 and had an excellent time (trip report is here http://www.australianfrequentflyer....anka-pearl-indian-ocean-37549.html?highlight=).
Apart from the east coast beachesthe weather should be excellent (beach weather still great on south & west coasts) & there is a fantastic range of history/beach/animal safaris etc available. It was not a priority in our planning but it was a cheap holiday & the Aussie $ has surged even higher since then

Vietnam? - if you stay mid to South, the weather won't be cold, just maybe a bit wet. I was in central Vietnam in January this year and had a great time - beautiful country, people and food.

Wow, I'm loving all three ideas! The Carnival idea is great and will probably fit time wise!

Sri Lanka and Vietnam are very high on the list, so thanks guys for the recommendations!

One of the better times of year to visit Thailand's north(Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai) as well as Luang Prabang or Siem Reap-here it will be hot but usually dry.All of these are interesting places to visit and you are so close to them anyway.

Having just visited Cuba, all I can say is if you know anyone there or do some thorough research before hand, you will have a blast there, I sure did. Spend a week there, and then tack on a few other exotic - out of reach - locations in Central America and you will have an unique holiday!! Everyone nowadays is travelling so much that the regular haunts, are just that! So be free, be adventurous and explore this great world!!

It would require different clothing (which you could hire), but it's the best time to ski/ride in Japan. Sapporo has the Sapporo snow festival (google it) and Niseko is probably the snowiest resort in the world, and one of the best resorts at which to ride and ski. Amazing times, and there's even a hilton for diamonds

If you want any tips on Niseko, I've been the last 3 out of 4 seasons.

Would have to agree with drron. If you're already in that region you would be better off stayîng around there (from a cost perspective).

South America - I've only seen Rio, Petropolis and Terasopolis. Rio is a place to tick off the bucket list, but TBH it's not a place I would rush to.

Although having 7 business related visits to India in 8 months last year, and bagging the place from a working perspective, I think it would be worthwhile visiting as a tourist.

How do the yanks deal with a Cuban stamp in your passport these days?

I remember when I was in Aruba these yanks were buying Cuban cigars but were banned from taking anything back home that had Cuban origins.

We did Nagano and loved it last Christmas. Snow like you wouldn't believe.

Nisenko gets the most snow as it is more exposed towards Russia and friends.

Love Japan, the grace of the people and the ease of getting around. A train pass is a must

Do it, I've been to Sapporo Snow and Ice festival three time and love it. It's not actually that cold, only minus 5-10. Very similar to a CBR winter. But with snow, lots of snow and an incredibly efficient train and subway system.

If you go make sure you visit the Otaru Gleaming festival at the same time. It is only a 40 minute train ride away.
