Damn.....i got caught with this when booking a flight for my wife. Problem is they won't let me cancel it even though i booked it as it's in her name. Guess they got me! Never again....

Have you tried replying to the travel insurance email that was sent with I think "Cooling Off Period" in email header?
 
from memory i actually just replied to the email they sent me with the policy. Don't recall seeing the other option.
