Mrs Rory Breaker and I are on our way to LHR on Xmas eve in Y.

Its the first time I'm traveling International as a WP.

If we are delayed (and it looks very likely), how should we expect to treated as WP, does anyone have any experiences of this?

Cheers

Half my office has been trying to escape from LHR this past week. My current tips for WP in Y based on a trip last month:
- don't assume people at the airport know your status or its benefits. You may have to be a little pushy - I went to the business boarding queue at BKK and they tried to send me back to the long economy queue
- check the plane config when you check in. There will be lots of plane changes and your nice preallocated seat may turn out to be not so good after all
- plan for stress. There will be lots of stressed people including QF staff, try not to add for it and nice things may happen
- know your time and date limits. If shuffling needs to happen, they are going to talk to those passengers they can contact easily. FFs can be bribed with points, future upgrades etc more easily than one-off flyers

I would suggest you just exploit the lounge access and try and keep relaxed.

Good luck.

I don't think I could imagine what LHR is like at the moment, F or J lounge regardless.

I recall a similar debacle; winter of 1978/9 I believe it was. They got both L & R main runways open, but none of the widebodies could get off the stands due to the refrozen slush on the aprons. The now closed 23/05 shorter runway was the only one open for a while, as the wind was blowing down it and not across it. I suppose they closed it for some commercial reason, but apart from the mountains it never snows in Spain .
