Hi All,

At Christmas 2010 we flew LHR - SIN - BNE - HKG - LHR on Qantas International Business Class with our 3 month old. She slept in the bassinet for most of the journey and it was a pleasant experience for us too.

We aim to repeat the same journey this Christmas 2011 when she will be 15 months old.

1) Will she be too large for the bassinet (I believe so, but can anyone comment please)?

2) Assuming she is too large, should we purchase a separate seat for her or is there sufficient room for her to squeeze in with her mum (who is smaller than I am!)? Naturally we're talking thousands of dollars difference in price if we buy her a separate business class seat (as she's eligible for the 10% infant fare), so any insights much appreciated!

Perhaps we're better off buying 3 premium economy seats?

Thank you

I believe most 15 month olds would weight too much for the bassinettes; the weight limit might be posted on the Qantas website somewhere.

3 years ago, we did Y with Little Miss, and had the three window seats on most flights, we put the arm rests up,a dn she stretched across our laps, which was bearable. I believe Y+ seats have immovabke armrests, so this would not be possible, and they have a 2-4-2 config.

For bub & mum sitting in the one seats - really depends on how bub sleeps and mum sleeps. And how much bub will want to move around. Little Miss 18 months wanted to walk up and down the aisles all the way from BNE-SIN, and to clean the floor of the galley. Your bub may be different, but many toddlers at this age seem to want to explore the new world around them, and not sit still. Be prepared for this possibility!

As for size/weight, this is what Qantas have to say

If you require a bassinet onboard, you must notify Qantas at the time of reservation. Bassinets may be requested for infants up to 18 months of age, but the recommended age limit for bassinet use on international flights is eight months. The weight limit is 11kg (25lbs). The bassinet size is 71cm x 31cm (28in x 12in). The depth is approximately 26cm (10.5in). Infants paying 10% of the adult fare who are too large for bassinets are not entitled to a seat and must be nursed. Alternatively, the payment of a child's fare would ensure a seat. Bassinets are subject to availability.
