Welcome to AFF.But boy what a big question for your first. You may very well have to tell us what your family is interested in.the USA is such a large and diverse place-I love it.
i have done a few TRs,the last one gives quite a few tips on shopping-
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....hotos/drron-rambles-around-the-usa-25846.html
Here is another-always restaurant reviews and mrsdrron's shopping adventures-this one is about NYC and Minnesota-
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....photos/the-godfather-in-new-joisey-19045.html
Here is another-the US portion starts from post 38-Florida,NYC,New england-

And yet another with NYC(it was my second home for 5 years)and the Adirondacks-

Now those should keep you reading for a while.Basically i believe the best way to see the USA is by car.It is so much more than just the big cities.but if it is your one big trip with the family certainly flying between cities may be the way to go.
So just keep asking the questions.

Hi barina, welcome to AFF!

Some big questions you have there -- perhaps if you could mention what sort of interests you have and any places that you particularly want to see, we might be able to give you some pointers. If it's your first time to the United States, I'd recommend seeing stuff that is only in the US or that the Americans do particularly well .. plenty of touristy stuff around California and Nevada; if you have time and budget New York City is a must, but also consider other things like Dallas in Texas and Atlanta in Georgia.

Small side note -- for travel in 2012, you'll need to wait until sometime next year to book anything, so the any advice you receive is going to be fairly general in nature.

Thanks for all your replies and I will spend some time to checkout what looks good to put on the travel wish list.

Thanks
Judy

A large question indeed. Need to know some of the groups interests I think.

Hi
Some places we are considering, Vegas, Grand Canyon, New York, Boston, massachusettes, Anaheim, San Francisco, Los Angeles. But really open to sugestions.

We plan to book next year after deciding on the itinerary...
Thanks

How long do you have for the trip.If just a couple of weeks then just fly between these places. If 3-4 weeks there are a couple of good driving tours egLas vegas-Utah NPs-Grand Canyon. Also driving New England from Boston especially if in October and all the fall colours.
