I've just uploaded a new itinerary to TripIt today, and notice they've introduced a new groups feature.
I'd like to raise this as a possible idea for improving sharing of trip information, specially since it doesn't mean retyping buckets of information into multiple places.
In summary, it allows you to easily view and share information on who's travelling where (similar to the existing monthly travel threads FT's FlightConnect, or ba97), in a more graphical form.
It also allows people to see who lives in what city (if you choose to share that info) so you know who the best people are to ask questions of on the forum.
You can always choose to make trips private, so TripIt information isn't shown to group unless you explicitly want it to be.
Considering how TripIt automatically processes itinerary information, would this be something worth exploring, if only as a trial with fellow AFF members?
One consideration is how membership to the group is managed. The page doesn't seem that clear if all members have to have email addresses from a single domain, or if it can handle email addresses from various domain. This is a key point, and one I've sent a help ticket off on to clarify.
If all members have to be from one domain, then this would render the whole idea moot as I don't think anyone would want another email address, let alone all the additional work and infrastructure/issues/costs that would be required to get everyone an address in the same domain.
Obviously we'd need Admin's OK, as we'd need to point the group master information back to him or an appropriate person to maintain continuity of control.
What's everyone's thoughts? Is this an idea worth looking at? How many people are already using TripIt for their travel? Is this something that Admin would be prepared to consider?
