Has anybody here and any dealings with TryBookings?

For the annual Australian get-together Oz Fest we have used them to collect the funds for the prepaid events. They have been used in the past though I don't know how often.

This year it all seems to have gone pear shaped as they are refusing to release the paid funds (approx $3000) until we provide receipts which we can't do as we haven't paid the invoices as they have the money.

I don't think there is much chance that we'll ever use them again after this debacle.

Yes, once. And it was easy to use, but hearing this I may reconsider in the future.

I am in the event space, though I use higher end solutions.

One problem in the event space is that there are a lot of scammers at work and are endless in the ways that people can scam. This can include running fake events.

The other factor at play, and in particular with volunteer run events, is that organisers can be overly optimistic of what can be achieved. Events may be cancelled etc.

End result is that many of the organisations in the process will be cautious with paying out the revenue as they do not want to be left holding the bag.

They have some limitations in their rules regarding early release of funds (i.e. before the event). Basically, if you request funds prior to the event date, they can require proof that the event will actually take place....

I/we certainly haven't found that in their T&C which look to me to be a lot of cleverly written babble.

It's in the Event Organiser Terms..

[h=3]Event Funds[/h] You agree that we will receive the ticket price or relevant payment (including any GST, taxes and charges but excluding our fees and charges for providing the Services) in full as your agent and we will hold these funds ('Event Funds') until such time as the relevant event or activity has been completed.

If you request earlier release of all or part of the Event Funds (including initial and subsequent requests for access to Event Funds), we may accept or reject each such request in our absolute discretion. If we accept any request it will be subject to any conditions we may require in our absolute discretion, such as any or all of the following conditions:

You're possibly not the first to trip over that provision!

Apart from greater cost, and various other factors....the ability to gain access to my funds as I earn them is a veto reason why I don't use these types of "free" services.

But for people who do one off, or simple, events they are a popular and for many the only really viable way these days.

As I mentioned earlier, they do this as otherwise every Nigerian Scamster and his Dog would be creating events, grabbing the ticket revenue and then leaving the Ticketing Service to deal with all those holding the worthless tickets.

Online ticketing is subject to many frauds:

Not all that free either!

The proviso they are now using is not obvious (read well hidden) and now leaves us in an awkward position as paying people in time for the bookings is now problematical.

They have the full history of Oz Fest 1 - 13 available via links and have been used previously for this same purpose so I really struggle with why there is such a problem on this occasion.

At this stage I'm going to send them copies of the invoices and ask/tell them to pay them directly.

Hmmm ... Is it possible to pay the invoices with a credit card having a decent interest free period?

TryBooking was used for almost all of the pre-paid events at AFF10. Did have problems with withdrawing funds initially but once I provided a paid invoice to them had no problems with subsequent withdrawals. The fees did take out a bit more than expected on some of higher priced activities but for the most part it made everything easy to manage.
