An interesting article especially some of the comments-
AA recalls ex-TWA flight attendants amid intra-union stress
I have been good friends with both current AA flight attendants and with laid off ex-TWA flight attendants. AA just announced they will recall 545 flight attendants to active employment status. All 545 are former TWA employees. There are about 800 more TWA attendants that remain on the recall list waiting to return to the job after more than 7 or 8 years of unemployment.
I guess my sentiments fall on the side of the ex-TWA workers more than on the side of AA’s APFA leadership. No union in history has been treated with the disdain the ex-TWA flight attendants had heaped on them by APFA. The ex-TWA flight attendants are returning, dedicated to doing a good job, but still smarting from finding themselves laid off more than half a decade.

wonder what big uptake AA has in volume to warrant that unless through natural atritian (bad spelling).

Good to hear that they may be employed again after many years without a job.

And from memory TWA flight attendants were gorgeous back in the 1990's. Wish I was not so naive back then.

It sounds like a big number but don't expect more than 1% to show up... they were laid off years ago and in all probability have moved on to other jobs, retired, or passed on to the great airline in the sky. AA volumes have not increased enough to warrant such a big recall of that number, it seems that management know the uptake will be fairly small.

Actually, that would be incorrect: (AA recalls 250 pilots; 545 FAs - Page 2 - FlyerTalk Forums)

Update:

Of the 227 flight attendants in the first group being recalled, 221 have accepted. Eight of the 221 are unable to report to base on December 17 due to medical reasons.

The second batch of recall letters is due to go out in the second half of November.

Wow, that's a real surprise. I'll assume those stats have been independently verified (I have not gone looking for any press release from AA that verifies it - but no matter). Great news for the FA's involved.
