I'm not in a position to call Virgin about this today, so asking here in the interim:

Mate is planning MEL-AKL on Virgin in March. Flight appears to be Air NZ operated.

Mate has a heap of Velocity points and will use them on this booking.

Mate's Friend is going too, and she also has a heap of points that will be used on the booking.

We tried a dummy booking last night and couldn't figure this out: is there any way to book for both of them together and use their respective points? The main point of this is to ensure they can be seated together, however they'd be happy to book separately if they can then somehow link the bookings or arrange adjacent seats. It seems there wasn't an option to do a seat selection in the booking process - is that not offered until after payment is made?

Will need to book seperately and then call to have the PNRs "linked". My experience with that is that its nothing more than some notes in the booking but a TA or agent may provide better knowledge of how it works.

All else fails, seat select early and check in early.
