The other stuff first. In the middle of my recent DONE4 I had a side-trip booked on the Finnair web site from Helsinki to Rovaniemi (in the north). It was the only part of the trip for which points and SC's did not post. Filled in the QF form online and this appeared on my activity statement a week later: UNSUCCESSFUL CLAIM - UNABLE TO VERIFY FLIGHT AY 0422 ECONOMY 16JAN08 ROVANEIMI/HELSINKI.

So I call the Qantas service desk, who asked for boarding passes. Problem is this is a one-class plane - sit where you like - no boarding pass thing. In the end I email e-ticket yesterday and actually get a phone call from Qantas today. The fare was booked in Z-class so no FFP's or SC's. First time its ever happened to me. At least i got the couresy of a call.

Now as to the tying up part. I started in NRT and have 7 legs to go (out of Sydney). Must be completed by xmas day within SWP and Asia. For the gurus out there what would be your preferred routing to maximise SC's and of course enjoy the best service/flights. Might upgrade a couple of the Asia flights to F.

Thanks in advance.

Unsure where you are based but assuming SYD maybe the following:
SYD-PER-ADL/BNE-SYD-PEK-HKG-SIN/DEL/DPS-NRT
split 3/3 Aus/Asia
Gets you the long flight to Beijing.

If your after best upgrade opps, maybe
SYD-PER-ADL/BNE-SYD-HKG-SIN-BKK-NRT

There will not be many opportunities to upgrade. The only choices will be SYD/MEL to SIN (QF31, QF9), SYD-BKK (QF1), SYD-HKG (QD127) or MEL-HKG (QF29). They are the only 3-class QF flights that will be available to you.

In Asia, look for CX flights using long-haul config aircraft such as some operating SIN-HKG and HKG-NRT.

Of course, if crediting to QFF, you don't get status bonus for CX flights; somewhat unavoidable with Asian travel.

How many Asian/SWP segments have you used?

Assuming none, I suggest the following is on the way to maximizing points/SC's:

SYD-CNS-MEL-AKL-HKG-BOM-HKG-NRT will earn 660 SC's and over 25K Qff points

About the only way around it is if you are able to use AA codeshares on CX flights. I am not sure of any sales restrictions on the AA codeshares. I used this in the past when crediting to QF and flying CX trans-Pacific, where the AA codeshare earned the status bonus (and another little bonus as well, but that another story ;) ).

Great tip - thanks NM. Given that this is being organised by AA that is really helpful. Thanks to all other contributors too.
