Uber Review

Just got the bill an hour later - $10.91. Not bad at all.

I've had 2 UberX experiences in the last week. The first one was excellent and I was picked up in a car that would have been at home in the UberBlack stable. The second was poor and was an old Magna or similar with a driver less knowledgeable than your average cabbie (so pretty poor). I gave feedback on both and Uber has already advised they will follow up on the latter.

Ouch you're a tough crowd lol ;) I can generally forgive poor local knowledge provided they use the GPS and check the route is ok with me first.

Im hoping someone can help the App challenged because Johnny, the teenage IT guy, isn't in today.

Ive downloaded the Uber app and it tells me I need to verify my mobile number by entering a particular number "in our app to confirm your Uber account" and I cant figure out where/how to do this.

Any advise... other than to pack my phone back into its box and send it back to Samsung because Im unworthy?

thanks,

You should have gotten a text from Uber when signing up which has said code. There should be a send again option where it's asking for the code

Thanks. I have the code, I just don't know where on the App to enter the code. Ive looked at profile, payment, tried to reply/resend and googled and still cant figure it out how to verify my number. Where do I enter the verify number in the App?

thanks,

Now they've cancelled flat rates to melbourne airport the price in fare estimate seems very high... $95 to $125 where it was $80 previously. Thumbs down

I used Uber from the CBD to MEL the day the rates changed (last Thursday). Going from CBD (near Melbourne Central) - total price before = $82, total price after = $73.

YMMV.

Thats uber black?

Well thats acceptable. .. perhaps the fare estimate on the app is out

Yes black. I guess the danger is bad traffic since the time charge is the variable. The breakdown of the fare was:

Base Fare: $8.00
Distance: $43.70
Time: $20.11
Tolls: $2.17

They also round down to the nearest dollar so I saved 98c.

Total journey time was 25 minutes so I guess it could have taken almost 40 minutes and the fare would have been the same as the old capped rate.

Re: MEL Taxi Advice [good service]

Uber may well be the epitome of evil, but so is taking a random cab.

QF has a contracted company that we use for both business and private jobs, and they have been excellent. But cabs from taken from the rank have shown me everything from unable to drive, can't navigate, attempted theft, hit and run, intentionally running another driver off the road. Just about need 000 on speed dial.

Re: MEL Taxi Advice [good service]

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, the fact is the Taxi industry in every state is its own worst enemy, dirty vehicles, drivers who don't speak English, poor driving skills and a total lack of even basic local geography.
so whether you love or hate Uber, what they have done is "disrupt" the taxi industry in the same way on line shopping has disrupted retail shopping, Air B&B has disrupted the Hotels sector, and I suspect we haven't see the last of digital disruption.
your story is refreshing, but I am guessing these guys are on a hiding to nothing. the only way the Uber's of this world survive is because they appeal to the Price sensitive majority.
For the record, I am sure there are plenty of rubbish Uber options out there as well.

Re: MEL Taxi Advice [good service]

I agree with GPH above.I started using Uber OS as I was sick of cabs ripping me off by taking the long way or insisting on a flat fare....and it is really convenient not having to fumble for foreign currency to pay at the end of the trip. So far I have caught a few Ubers in Australia and the experiences have all been +ve so far :)....I guess market forces will determine if Uber is here for the long term or not :)
