UK car hire for 22 year old ??

anyone know of a car hire company in the UK that does not crucify 22 year old female driver ?

Looking at 2 weeks hire Edinburgh to Edinburgh, then 10 days around Ireland (pick-up can be Dublin or Belfast)

Driveaway want $47.00 per day extra for Scotland, and have not found a car in Ireland that will accept under 25 driver.

Rental will be during June 2013 (after semester at Dundee Uni)

Tried Argus? They show AUD rates as low as $11.76/ day for 10 days from Dublin Airport for a Fiesta or similar.

Argus want $50.00 per day for young driver. The young driver $ is never shown in the daily rate, you have to read the T&C to see how much they are going to charge, and you pay on pick-up, not on booking.

Hertz in Dublin will charge you an additional €9.50 per day young driver excess, and I think you can only go up to a Category E car or something.

Why not fly into Dublin, rent from there and then drive to Belfast, 90 minute drive, then catch the ferry from Larne to Cairnryan or Stranrar or even Troon. Hertz will allow you to take the car to Scotland as long as you advise them in advance!

It appears possible to hire a car at 22 in Ireland or the UK, but not all companies, and the ones (well, the ones I've seen) that do will unfortunately slug you for it. vroomvroomvroom.com gives a couple of options (I'm not saying it is best, but the option appears to be there for 22yo's to rent).

The minimum age for a rental in Ireland is 22. You need to of been eligible to hold a license for at least 6 years.

As you are eligible to hold a license at 16 then 16 + 6 = 22.
