This morning I was trying to change my seats ( Elevate) for an upcoming flight in April , strangely it was saying this can only be updated by the customer service. I booked the flights directly on Virgin Australia website and no TA.

Any clue on why this was happening ?

It seems to be a common occurence; when I flew on a directly booked Elevate ticket a few weeks ago I had the same thing happen and I recall a recent forum post with the same query. A quick call to the call centre should solve your problem (it solved mine!) As a platinum, you shouldn't need to wait.

As to why, I assume it is due to the well noted issues with VA's IT systems :)

I was on wait for almost 15-20 minutes and gave up. Will try calling in tomorrow again to see my luck..

Last time I rang them was shortly before COVID got serious - no wait time. I guess with everything going on they must be very busy! Hopefully you can put it on speaker :)

Have you tried using the Virgin Australia mobile app ? Sometimes that works when the website doesn’t.

If my seats are Economy X seats, I'm unable to change them in the app. The website seems to work just fine though. Try both and see how you go.

I have found the same issue only once I had completed Check In - VA doesn't allow you to update seats you have to call in. but for Gold and Platinum should only take a few minutes as previously experienced just let them know which ones and they update for you same goes in the lounge they can update for you quickly.

The current wait times for Gold/Platinum is nothing less than 30 minutes and as per another post Manila call centre is closed so not sure how is the wait gonna shoot up.... I just have to deal with it I guess and keep trying ... cheers
