United Premier Gold (HSBC) How to Get Velocity Gold Too?

Hi

For the next year I'm star alliance gold (United premier gold) so they have the benefits with virgin of lounge access

I won't be putting enough through the HSBC card to qualify for the gold again

However I will be doing a lot of virgin flights

To get the virgin lounge access domestically for all of those flights, can I use my velocity ff number on the booking and then at the airport just show them my united premier gold card to gain lounge access?

Or do I need to put my united number in the booking to do it? If I do that, then that would mean that the flights won't count towards building my virgin flights up to hopefully achieve virgin gold by the time I have to get rid of the HSBC card next year

Any tips appreciated please. Worst case it's a great way of enjoying the perks for the next year. Just seems like a wasted opportunity to work towards virgin velocity gold at the same time if that is a possibility while still getting the lounge access through the united partnership

Thanks
