United will commence flights between Adelaide and San Francisco in December 2025.

Flights operate 3 times a week on the 787-9.

Flights are already on sale on their website.

I was thinking Perth might have been next, if the 787 can even get that far.

They must have the data from the Virgin tieup to show that the demand is there.

United to Adelaide was not on my bingo card either!
I reckon it was about 2 years ago when I mentioned on here that the SA Government was trying to get direct US flights but nothing eventuated at the time and I thought that was the end of it.

Funnily enough 2 weeks ago I was on a flight back from OLP with a SA government official I’ve known for a while and whilst he mentioned 4 routes are in negotiation currently I didn’t have an inkling that the US was one of those especially with the current political climate over there. He did mention though that QF to SIN is as good as done and that direct flights to India and Japan were progressing well but no mention of the US one 🤷

Maybe he isn't in the internal loop then.

Also, there is the possibility that Aukus is leading to more travel to and from ADL.

Does anyone know if SA has an incentive program for attracting international airlines?
The State government is offering incentives.
There are a hell of a lot of US travellers to ADL currently as part of our defence projects

I suspect he knew an announcement was imminent

Yes. AUKUS was mentioned today. Maybe they will build a new airport at Osborne? Nephew in the build is off to SF shortly. After the UK visit up in the north.

AUKUS would definitely be a driver but I think wouldn't be seasonal? A US relative of mine is coming over to ADL for AUKUS related reasons but not in summer when the ADF is on holidays ...

I wonder how long are the SA government incentives/subsidies for the upcoming seasonal ADL-SFO services, at least 3 seasons?

As an Adelaide resident this is great news - I'm heading to the US three times this year but using Fiji Air and would love to compare the two , I normally stick W Oneworld carriers but have miles in Krisflyer too so this could be an alternative option

That's great news for South Aussies. I thought it was April Fools when I heard it but glad it is actually true.

It is amazing that so many airlines service international routes to ADL but not QF (yet) ......
