Hi Guys,

Just made DJ Gold.

I'm taking a long flight next week and its booked in Blue Saver so no paid upgrade for me.

Are there any benefits of being gold (will probably pay for blue zone if nothing) that will make the trip better?

With QF i could always do ODU....

Thanks in advance!

Recent reports suggest you may receive an complimentary upgrade to PE following doors shut at the gate if space available.

PE seat with non PE service.

Don't wait to board; when you check in at "The Lounge", nicely ask for a front seat. ;)

Thanks....hopefully some good comes out of it,,,

Nothing great so far on DJ-

Flew from OOL to Syd and my boarding pass didnt have any status printed and i was assigned a middle seat towards the back....

In my experience, DJ at OOL delivers a poor experience for Velocity Gold members. Perhaps this is because the service function is largely outsourced to Aero-Care and they only use the old paper cards that don't print status (e.g. Gold, Silver).

That said, I understand that QFF SG members have a similarly poor experience since the QC was removed as part of the recent terminal upgrade (and QF terminating service to OOL) and replaced by a JQ Lounge that can only be accessed by QFF WP members or one-time payments.

.

Virgin outsource alot of check in (in other ports and I've had reasonable service there), so maybe it's just the Gold Coast service mentality biting?

That's certainly a possibility!

you didn't do OLCI? I've always used online checkin with DJ and don't think I would ever just turn up to be assigned a seat.

Is there a JQ lounge that WP can access? Where is it?

No, there is not a lounge at OOL you can access for free even if you were flying JQ to Perth, (there has been a price rise),

Q. Do Qantas Club Members or Qantas Frequent Flyers receive complimentary access to the lounge?
A. The Gold Coast Lounge is not associated with the Qantas Club & Frequent Flyer program. As such, there is no special consideration given to Qantas Club Members or Qantas Frequent Flyers. All Jetstar passengers, regardless of Qantas Club membership or Qantas Frequent Flyer status, are subject to the same commercial entry conditions and payments.
FAQ - Gold Coast Lounge - Travel Services - Travel Information - Jetstar Airways

however if you look in the terms and conditions page it says WPs can access the lounge if flying JQ along with 2 guests!

1.9. Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Chairmans Lounge members may present a current membership card as a valid form of Gold Coast Lounge or Ākarana Lounge entry pass for themselves and 2 guests travelling on a qualifying flight. Bronze, Silver and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Qantas Club members travelling in economy must purchase entry.

As you can see by the other thread, this inconstancy has been there for some time.

TBH, I don't think the FAQ was ever updated to note that platinum folk were allowed. The Terms and Conditions of the Jetstar and Akarana Lounge are more explicit:

I was there a few months back and it still said free entry for WP's but it might have changed in the meantime?

I wouldn’t call it recent, but if you happen to be flying out of OOL on JQ, and not a WP, the $9.99 pre-purchase lounge pass is actually good value, especially when you consider the food and drink options available inside. It’s very much like the old Qantas Business International lounges, in that alcohol is flowing at all hours and the food selection is good, but there’s been no change to table service.

I’d agree with that, I’ve never found the staff, other than in the JQ lounge, to be particularly nice.

weirdest thing....i did do OLCI and it was preassigned a middle seat and all the aisle and windows were taken...terrible

interesting...so with OOL- toss up between velocity status points on DJ or lounge access (no QFF points) but free booze...
