So, AusBT has a story today Revealed: Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum's hidden benefits - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller about 'unpublished benefits' to QF FF members. The article relates specifically to WP members, but I'm interested to hear if anyone has compiled a list of unpublished benefits at all QF tiers? Or, is this something that we just should not talk about and / or mention here

There is nothing new here about releasing award seats for WP's.. The things i have seen are, changing an award flight at the airport for an earlier one (normally can't be done), and during the ash cloud incident, somehow got myself and my daughter on a flight on the monday when only tuesday was available.

The technique has been oft discussed here, but this is the first time I've seen it published "in the open", so to speak

So not an "Unpublished' benefit any longer then :!::mrgreen:
Cheers
N'oz

And now that it's "published" by someone, more people will try to get it, leading to the eventual "enhancement" of the unpublished benefits. This is why unpublished benefits should remain as such. Well, it's too late now. Whoever wanted to tell the world about it has probably just ruined it for everyone.

Well, try telling that to AusBT.

That's why I thought it best in the article to really make it clear that this is not a 100% surefire thing. I mean, really clear. It won't always work, i.e. there is a chance that on a full (or even not so full) flight, you still won't get the J or F seat you want. On top of that, yield calculations can change regularly, so a 'no' one day is not comparable to a 'yes' on another day.

Also, all such requested seats must be done through the phone, which necessarily incurs the Telephone Assistance Fee.

Gee. AusBT seems to be getting some "exclusive" interviews with Qantas lately. And aren't these "exclusive" interviews very informative!

The article fails to mention J seats are the only ones that can be requested on domestic routes, no Y.

I didn't know that, although why someone would want to do that is beyond me, even if it were, for example, to request say 4 seats.

I love the way AusBT just sucks up information from FF boards, compiles it, perhaps adds some editorial comments and/or questions someone at the source about the information and then proclaims the news is special. It's the equivalent of Coles having a sign out the front going "We have fresh meat today!!!!".

I know at least 5 people who have been contacted directly by AusBT seeking input in various ways. Yep they are active in FF forums, and want to commercialise the valuable stuff discussed.

Power to them (they are a media organisation). But, the real loser is us.

In some way, to give them a little bit of credit, they did check (I suppose) this information with Qantas (i.e. it was possible to request seats). Otherwise, AusBT would be guilty of misquoting, even if the benefit was real.

I just don't like the way that the information has been inherently sensationalised. Business people (audience of AusBT) don't know as much as us, and they need to be made aware of caveats a lot more than us who tend to ask more questions and probe more deeply into the mechanics. Otherwise, you're just setting them up for disappointment and unfair expectation (equals more DYKWIA types being bred), except that in this case the blame will bypass AusBT and fall directly on QF.

I probably don't mind having this type of pax being sent over to other airlines. :p

I was told that QF staff on the front line can only see your status level not how many status credits you have... So when the introduce wp1 might be some more unpublished ff benefits. As my status has risen getting earlier flights have been easier to get.
