For the past few years, Velocity Frequent Flyer has given bonus points when transferring points from credit cards every May and November. It didn't run a promo in May this year (for obvious reasons), but like clockwork the offer is back this month.

During November 2020, you can get bonus points when transferring from the following banks/loyalty programs to Velocity:
  • American Express
  • NAB
  • Citibank
  • Diners Club
  • Card Services
  • Suncorp
  • BOQ
  • CommBank
  • Westpac
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • Accor ALL
  • IHG Rewards Club
  • Hilton Honors
  • Shangri-La
  • Choice Privileges
  • Flybuys
With some of the programs, you get a flat 15% or 20% bonus. With others, the bonus depends on how many points you transfer and ranges from 15% to 40% (for transfers of more than 750,000 points).

You can also earn 50 Virgin status credits by transferring at least 50,000 Velocity points (or equivalent) in one transaction during the promo period.

It would be a reasonable offer during normal times, but I don't think I'll be biting. I would rather wait until the situation with Virgin Australia & Velocity is more certain.

Hmmm...I have about 50K Flybuy pts that I would normally transfer to Velocity when there is a 15% bonus...what should I do?!

The 15% bonus will probably be back sometime. I'd wait (unless you have an immediate use for Velocity points).

Kpc, wait for MattG's webninar first to see what Bain's VA2 plans are.
OR to keep it in the "FB family", you can use part points to pay for a hotel if it turns out that after Bain takes full control of VA2 and VFF, it turns out to be horribly bad, ie, if points needed in FB goes up for the same VFF points, or you end up getting less VFF points for more FB points.
OR if we we are lucky and things stay the same, then you can transfer from FB to VFF at 0.435 (no bonus), or 0.415 (15% bonus (1001 points)) or 0.5655 (30% bonus 1131 points)).

15% bonus from FB to VFF is back this year, Nov 2020.
Read in my email inbox.
Equiv of 50,000 VFF points needed to get 50 VFF SC, so 115,000 FB points!
Ouch.

Thats for sure - opening up transfers to KF would definitely get me interested but not v likely!!

By shutting down VA->SQ transfers, Velocity is fundamentally admitting that Velocity points are not as desirable as Krisflyer.

SQ is very stable, backed with $10B of Government cash. Velocity is a thing of the past IMO.

When either it was SQ or VA1/VFF who decided it couldn't be a 1:1 transfer between the 2 programs, I knew it wasn't going to be on equal footing anymore, or even playing field.
One of them decided (most like SQ), and VA thought at that time to agree, that you. or we in this case, needed more VFF to transfer the same amount (to) of KF points to move points between the programs.
I did not move my VFF points across, will still fly VA, but will put more emphasis on AirNZ/SQ's own programs when flying to NZ/SIN.
I do hope SQ will put their points expiry a bit longer, into the future, too.

Is VA going to be strictly domestic from now on? Or will they bring back Pacific Islands flights when borders open?

They will bring back short and long haul international once borders re-open and if they believe they can operate them at a profit.

Does anyone know what the current transfer times are? I'm ~1000 velocity points short of being able to redeem my trip from SYD to ADL for Christmas, and would like to clear out my remaining Velocity balance before a likely devaluation. Don't want to send any NAB Rewards points across if it's going to take 2 weeks and I'll miss out on the seats.
