Upgrade a Friend Domestically

Forgive me if this is either a) a stupid question or b) already been asked and answered but I can't seem to figure this out (or find an answer).

Can I upgrade a friend who is traveling with me on the same PNR on a domestic flight using the online tool?

I've never tried it with another person on the PNR so it'd be great to know if I can!

You can request an upgrade on points for a family member. I have been able to upgrade my in-laws on points, or at least request upgrades, from my account. You do need to select the familial relationship when requesting the upgrade, so it depends whether your friend might qualify or you wish to declare them as family. AFAIK, QF do not validate the accuracy of the familial relationship stated on the request.
