Gah! I love the benefit of being able to upgrade to J on my BNE > LAX trips... but hate the anxiety when you're on the wait list, or waiting it out at the last minute for a reward seat to pop up, drives me crazy!

Leave on Oct 25th - currently booked on Premium as a Platinum... and wait listed... 20+ seats showing in J... surely! Surely! But looking at other dates a week or so around it, (that also look pretty light on).. haven't seen any reward seats pop up... hmmm..

When you're wait listed, are they making seats available that may not show up as normal reward seats? Or, if reward seats dont show up.. then no chance of an upgrade when wait listed?

I read somewhere that VA have a habit of releasing upgrades/reward seats around 6 days before the flight if there are still plenty of unsold seats.

Your flight does look pretty empty at this stage, so I'd be expecting the upgrade to clear sometime after 19 October.

How do you get 20+ seats showing?

If going by the seat map that doesn't necessarily give you the potential loading.

Wait-list didn't work for me. I noticed 6 days out that award seats opened up and I rang to secure them - WL didn't mean much because any red member could have got those seats ahead of us. Coming home, nothing opened up, despite a few phone calls. Was advised at checkin in LAX that no wait-list even exists (I had to show them the VA website) - then was proceeded to be told that even though there was a handful of seats left - they would be allocated to staff ahead of me.
