Any seat awards are indeed upgradeable with points. Since 'tis international it's the waitlist deal.

Also, you will probably need to call in to request the upgrade as the have been reports of being unable to do so online for the less points intensive bookings.

Yes do it by phone. The cost one way was 45,000 points and you don't get SCs or points back on the upgrade so it is a net 45,000 points and JASA rewards. Mrscove did this last week and her plane was full in First which is the way it should always be. You will be behind a few who have better status but the call is worth doing provided you aren't using your last points.

You can also change a JASA to a FASA, often cheaper than an upgrade using points if there is classic award availability, some here have reported it to be very cheap ;)

Fantastic news then, hoping to get Mrs Lime in F she would love it, see what happens when time comes. Will have plenty of points for upgrade as trip is not till mid 2012.

I take it its 48K points each way per person to upgrade J to F?.

Is the return leg LAX/SYD in F booked (if available) before leaving OZ or while in the US?.

Thanks...obviously one needs squillions of points to start with ??

The art is to find an any seat award at a reasonable price. The good ones tend to coincide with classic award availability. They are out there, but you do have to book a fair way in advance. (From my experience.) :)

Have booked my JASA to FRA for August next year last weekend... You have to be early if you want the cheap ones :-)

Just reviewed QFF and FASA SYD-LAX for two tickets in July next year is roughly around 3,800,000 points. Is there a trick to secure seats on the A380 bird at a more reasonable point transfer? ;)
