Hi. I would like to know if an upgrade request (from a flexi to business using points) is actioned straight away, if there are rewards seats in business available, or do you go into some sort of QF lottery system ?

It's actioned straight away. The Platinum desk can even let you know what flights have upgrade availability before you book the flexi.

Virgin Australia is great for domestic business upgrades, because it is instant, big plus over the Qantas "we will let you know but we can't guarantee it" system.

Just a tip, before you book your flights, if your travel dates are flexible, call the gold or plat desk and give them the dates you are looking to travel and whether they have any upgrades on those dates and the staff will let you know.

This process avoids you booking a flexi fare on a date, calling the desk and finding out there are no upgrade seats available on your flight.

But you won't earn SC and points on the upgraded fare like you do with Qantas. With Virgin, you will earn SC and points for the flexi fare you paid.

On a domestic flight qantas can confirm an upgrade instantly. Not seeing anything better in the virgin way.
