I understand you cant mix reward and paid fares on the same ticket. What I want to do is buy a Flex or PE fare from LAV>LAX>BNE and upgrade on points the LAX>BNE leg. I understand that the LAV>LAX is VA codeshare with a partner and can not be upgraded, so does that make the LAX>BNE leg also non-upgradable. I spoke to virgin and they said it is ok, but after I read the thread about the guy with this issues on Christmas eve on a paid and reward ticket, while not the same I know, I thought I would ask again here before I called back.

thanks

Hi doczim, you can use Points to upgrade your LAX-BNE service if the flight you've booked is marketed & operated by VA and your itinerary has been ticketed on VA ticket numbers, which begin with '795.' The fact that you are connecting from a codeshare service in the same itinerary won't impact on your ability to upgrade on the eligible flight sector.

thanks VFF. I assume I will be able to check our bags in LV all the way through to BNE? Do we get the international baggage allowance on the codeshare leg?

Now waiting for the flights to be released for early Jan. I notice QF already have there flights out till mid Jan already buy VA still mid Dec ??

Hi doczim,
Apologies for the delay in response.

Yes you will be able to through check your bags from Las Vegas to Brisbane as you're on a single ticket, and you will also be able to receive the VA long haul baggage allowance for your LAS-LAX sector.

VA flights are bookable from 331 days before departure.

Have a great trip! :)

No problems VFF. I am happy to hear this, though it is contrary to what I was told on the Platinum line when I called in. They advised that we would only have the domestic carrier limits. So this leads me to ask another question to confirm what I've been told. If I'm buying it as a VA ticket and it's a codeshare with Delta, or Virgin America , can I purchase the Economy Comfort seats or Main Cabin Select? I was told I couldn't . It wouldn't be so much that we wanted them for the LAS > LAX, but we are considering we may skip LAV and do NYC > LAX and stopover in LAX for a day or so and then continue home to BNE. SO given the longer flight from NYC we wanted they better Y seats.

VFF: wanted to ask you another question. I have now booked our flights and was able upgrade the BNE > LAX return legs on points. Was a relatively painless process and many thanks to all here ho have helped inform me on how this works!.

We actually booked JFK > LAX > BNE on way back as a through ticket with stopover in LA for 2 days. JFK > LAX is operated by Delta. I basically knew and have had confirmed that I can not upgrade the internal leg to J even if I was willing to pay without having it effect the LAX: BNE leg and upgrade which is not something I want to do. I have been told I can call Delta with the Delta booking reference to have seats assigned and also potentially Economy comfort which is better than nothing. I have gone on to Delta.com with the booking reference and I see EC seats available to select, however there is an overarching message that says I can only "Currently only view seats for this flight - (325 days out)

Now to my question(finally) - doing this with Delta, gettign them to select EC seats, will this at all effect our LAX:BNE leg and upgrade ?

It won't. VA quite possibly won't even see your DL seat selection, let alone having it affect your upgrade.

thanks notzac. If I could I'd upgrade to business for that leg, but not if it risked my upgrade which VA said it would. But they said that the EC would be different as as long as it doesn't reprice the ticket it epould be ok

Yeah - upgrading the DL leg (assuming that's possible) would force a reissue of the ticket, which would probably knock out the VA upgrade. EC on the cross country run isn't horrible, you'll be fine. :)

I've read differing reports about EC but I'm sure it must be a little better at least than regular Y so we just have to suck it up. If nothing else it will let us be extra thankful for our J return trip to BNE
