Is it possible to upgrade a CX flight using QFF points? Mr. sinophile888 is booked in Y on CX 136 from PER -> HKG and return on CX 171 from HKG -> PER. We have about 80 000 points, which I hope is plenty for a one-way upgrade. Mr. sinophile888 really enjoys J travel but drew the line at A$5500 return.

No - you can only use QFF points to upgrade QF flights (must be QF metal).

Sorry, no only QF flights on QF metal can be upgraded

Not sure what fees Mr S's ticket would attract if cancelled but you could tell him about the cheap J tickets ex TPE to Aust for approx AUD2200.00 return & maybe a tad more than half of that for a one way.

He'd need to position to TPE which he could do on the outbound leg of his CX ticket travelling whY to HKG then buy a sector fare HKG/TPE or do a Classic award redemption on CX.

He'd then be able to travel with you in J HKG/PER then has the ticket to fly in J PER/xHKG/TPE for your next trip.
