Upgrade priority after status change

Hello brains trust.

I have seen this question answered before but my search skills have failed me.

I have a booking coming up I’ve requested an upgrade on, but have just booked a trip prior that which will tip me over 1400 SCs.

Are upgrade requests processed on the basis of the members current status or the status at the time the request is made?

Just strategising if it’s worth cancelling and resubmitting once I make it to platinum. Original request was made several months ago and if I do resubmit it will be 2 weeks before departure so mindful of not losing my place in the queue if there’s no need to resubmit.

Cheers

My understanding is that when an upgrade slot(s) is released, the system will process all requests in terms of your priority order at the time of processing. So if the slot is released before you hit platinum, you will be gold in the process order, if the slot is released after you have reached platinum, then you will be platinum in the processing order….. so in your scenario, I don’t think cancelling will make a difference, it will just be dependent on when the upgrade is released and your status at that time.

I just spoke to Qantas premium team about this and they said when you change status tiers (up or down) the system automatically updates the upgrade requests on your account as well.

It can take some time though, and my booking hadn’t reflected that yet. They were able to go in and tweak it to reflect the status change and were also able to ensure the original date the upgrade was requested remained too.

So if you’re in a similar position (especially if you have access to premium team), a call could give some added confidence but otherwise it should be automatic.
