Hi All,

With less than 12 hours before my flight, Checkmytrip is showing my upgrade as waitlisted, and seatcounter is showing C1D1J1. What ar the chances of the upgrade coming through? I am an SG and put the request in 3 weeks ago. If anyone could check EF, it would be appreciated.

It's not looking good, QF98 on a Friday night is normally pretty busy. I'll wave from the pointy end then Diablo, I'm on there tonight as well.

Thanks for the heads up. As expected the ug didn't eventuate, but I have checked in early enough to get an exit row. In hindsight, QF98 midweek would have been a better bet! 2muchplastic, enjoy flying upfront. I wish I could afford to do so on a regular basis, or have a job that allowed me to, but being a student makes it somewhat difficult!

Just to show that you should never gloat, my flight from PVG was delayed by nearly 2 hours, and I ended up missing QF98 (ended up on CX103 instead)

I'm surprised that you didn't get my seat Diablo!

I think J must have been oversold on that flight, as I had a WP next to me in the exit row, who was surprised that he hadn't automatically been upgraded to J. He said that usually on QF98 he gets bumped up automatically . 2muchplastic, were you flying J on CX? I've been told that their J is superior to QF's.

do you really mean oversold? Or do you mean fully sold? Oversold would mean a paying passenger had to be bumped. Qantas rarely oversells the highest cabin in the aircraft. That situation usually only occurs if there is an aircraft change or other irregular ops that results is people waitlisted for a flight. A lack of upgrades implies good yield management and perhaps a fully sold cabin. It does not automatically mean an oversold cabin.

Yeah, sorry, I meant fully sold not oversold. Seatcounter was showing 1D1J just before departure, so probably more a case of good yield management.

I don't recall ever seeing an empty J seat on QF98, generally I only fly on a friday night though.

As for CX being better than QF, it depends which aircraft you get. I flew the same flight a couple of times last year, and got a ratty old A340 which only had a regional style J seat, reclining but not lay flat. On friday though, it was a newer A330 with lay flat seats, but I think you need to get one of their 747s or 777s to make it significantly better than the QF offering.
