Welcome at AFF, have you put in an upgrade request, there was a recent promo that allowed non upgradable fares to be upgraded over the quiet period, unless you took advantage of that I dont like your chances.

You may be able to upgrade ($$) your fare class in order to apply for an upgrade, but even then it's a lottery.

Your status won't make any difference otherwise no Gold/Plat would ever bother paying higher fares.

Go into "manage my booking" and upgrade your Q-class ticket to the lowest price Y ticket that allows for upgrades. Then put in your upgrade request. But do bear in mind that you won't get a confirmed upgrade until (at best) around 3 days prior to the flight.

In the old days, you could get a confirmed upgrade on an international flight at the time of booking by using your points (same way as you do now for domestic), but obviously QF felt it was losing too many pax who would have been prepared to pay the much higher price for a confirmed J seat - and I happily admit that I'm one of those who would not be prepared to take my chances in the lottery!! :p
