Okay so I have a few QF flights booked

MEL-LAX - One in Y+ and one in J

Wish to use points to upgrade, and I am currently Silver with QF, soon to be Gold and I could make Platinum by early next year now.

Should I request the upgrades now, or wait til Gold or wait til Platinum ?

Does it make any difference or will QF simply cough my account 7 days prior to the flight and then upgrade in order of Plat-->Gold-->Silver-->Bronze ?

Best to put the requests in after you have reached the highest status you will before the flight (before upgrade requests are considered for the flight)

Really? I would assume they'd look at the current status when the upgrade queue is processed.

My Partner was silver when he traveled last month, applied for upgrade fr J to F both ways not expecting to get it because of low status. He didnt get it on way there but was surprised to be upgraded on way back. So you never know.

Well I'll just booked to MEL-SYD-ASP, JASA flights in J, so I'll be platinum by the end of November...

Submitting the request once I am platinum will be better I think than doing it now, as Silver, and run the risk of the QF computers thinking I am still Silver and not attempting the upgrade until 24hours out

Airline ticketing systems are notorious for locking in the status at time of ticketing.

AA does this with revenue tickets.

It may of course have its advantages if you are dropping in tier.

That's what I am thinking, and I guess the whole reason for my post!

Virgin Australian does it with the baggage allowance as well

I will now be Platinum in less than 1 month, so I am going to wait and then submit the upgrade request once Plat

My first time ever as Plat too

Would assume the QF system wouldn't have issues seeing the current QF status. I can understand why AA would suck it in once only - it has to access an external system to do it.

I will face this next year, moving from silver to gold about 2 days before a flight.. I'll be putting the request in while silver.
